alilou's Adventures in Wonderland - all over the map.

My thoughts and experiences were similar when I was there almost 20 years ago...
Yes, I understand the tourist boom didn't really get going until later than that. By 2010 they had over 14 mil visitors. Then came the revolution of 2011 and it all fell apart :( and people stopped going.
It's an extraordinary country. I'd love to go back and explore some more.

I'm so often rushing it seems. Since I work on deadlines, it is unavoidable. Add to that having to get to ___ by ___ time before it closes, or having various appointments for teeth cleaning and such. Then. . .CBC's figure skating schedule for TV (hardly nothing) and stream - not archived, so useless unless you watch live or on the same day, which I often cannot do. I just let it go this season, and will watch the You Tube vids spoiled.

However, I'm finding that the 'calm focus' Don talks about really helps the rushing to subside.

This enables me to mute the voices in my head that are saying things like "This is too impossible!" or "How on earth can I do this?"

Instead, I just deal with the task at hand. And instead of flying into a panic when I get a flurry of emails in, I just get a cup of copy and read them one by one, calmly. Doing one task at a time makes everything so much more manageable.

It's amazing isn't how all the stress falls away when we make the clear decision to just be focused on what we're doing? Oh and I'm very familiar with those voices - it's too much, I'm overwhelmed, I'll never get it done. I have to be reminded all the time to let it go and I'm not nearly as busy as you.

I do hope you're at least recording cbc's minimal coverage (even though Kurt's incessant talking and ridiculous mistakes drive me nuts - he even called kd lang one of Canada's greatest comedians!!!! If it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious!)

Thanks sk8pics :)

I have a new blog post ready - about summer family holidays in Sweden. Sweden in beautiful!

A Berry Fun Family Summer in Sweden

Sorry for being so out of the loop, but both you and Don take the photos you post, right? I see from this post that there are photos of both of you, so I assume you trade off with the camera. Or are you both packing? ;) Or is one of you the camera operator and the other only steps in to take a photo of the other?

I like all the photos you post, and specifically the shots of people you get as I usually avoid these types of photos. Twice I've had bad situations occur when taking photos and people thought I was taking photos of them...when I wasn't. I even showed them on my camera the photos I had taken, but both times neither were satisfied with that. So I avoid taking pictures of people unless the potential shot is way too much to resist. :)

We both carry cameras, but all the photos are mine unless I say that they were taken by Don or someone else.
I love photographing the people of the places we visit. I have a zoom lens so sometimes the people don't know I'm photographing them. Often I'll engage with the people first, like the women sitting in front of the Blue Mosque. Then it's fun because I get to have some interaction with them. I've only once had someone get mad at me.
