Adult Competitions

I'm doing light entertainment. I don't have the bronze FS test yet, so I can't do singles. I thought of doing solo dance, but I just moved up to silver, and I'm NOT READY.

I'm doing Easterns and then the PA State Games the following weekend. AN doesn't appeal to me.

Trying to decide between one of the ISU events (Vancouver or Oberstdorf) or Gay Games (which is in Paris this year).

I'm doing pre-silver pattern dances, and don't feel ready, either, even though I've been doing that level for a while. I'm a terrible solo competitor. I have to do silver solo free dance because I've passed the partnered silver free dance test.

The NJ state games are in the summer. NY's are now-ish, but they don't have events for adults. I can do either state.

LOL I moved myself up to Pre-Gold solo dance this year - the requirements changed and now the complete Silver dance test qualifies. I'm tired of practicing dances that I passed 10 years ago, even if that means I will finish last.

I am doing ANs too - we should meet up :cheer2:

Curious to know why it doesn't appeal to you?

It’s probably too late now, but I’d check on that. I know when I was (briefly) skating partnered pre-bronze, I was ok at that level because my pre-silver dances were solo not partnered. USFS was very clear that solo pattern dance and partner pattern dance were two totally separate things. I wonder if that’s the same for the free dances.

That said, I’d rather skate silver free dance than bronze (which is what I’m doing), but I haven’t passed all the pre-silvers. I still need the European.

Believe me, I have checked. Here are the test requirements for bronze:

6740 Adult Bronze Solo Free Dance Event A. Test qualifications as of the closing date for entries, skaters must have passed at least one of the following: 1. The complete standard, adult or masters solo or partnered pre-bronze pattern dance test and no higher than one standard, adult or masters solo or partnered silver pattern dance test, 2. The standard, adult or masters juvenile solo free dance test and no higher than the standard, adult or masters intermediate solo free dance test, 3. The juvenile free dance test and no higher than the intermediate free dance test, 4. The adult or masters bronze free dance test and no higher adult or masters free dance tests.

I'd be okay, except for #4. I've passed the masters silver free dance test, so I'm forced up to silver for solo free dance.

I confused myself and was looking at it the other way around. Solo doesn’t qualify you for partnered but partnered always qualifies you for solo. Since you did partnered, you would be at silver solo. Sorry about that.

I used to have to compete at silver for light entertainment, due to my dance tests. But now your pattern dance tests don't count toward that - it's your freestyle or free dance test. I got grandfathered to bronze. This is good!

Easterns are next weekend. My dress is now ready. I'd had to have it altered. It was built for a taller and wider person, but now, it looks great. I missed my lesson yesterday, though, due to the snow - I couldn't get out of the driveway.

Gaaaah, good luck, everyone! So excited to hear about your respective adventures and experiences! ❤

FYI Easterns competitors/attendees: There's a huge snow storm moving into the Philadelphia area. Start making plans, etc etc, details here:

To clarify - this is for Tuesday night (tomorrow) and Wednesday. And as of this moment, it's for 3-5 inches in that area. Worth keeping an eye on, but not yet the snowpocalypse. ;) The snowpocalypse is actually going to be up by me.

The weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday looks good. Some rain on Friday.

Does anyone have a link to someone doing the pre-bronze adult compulsory program (not the test; the program) from this season? I believe I was am doing the wrong mohawk pattern, and I would like to see others doing the program so double check my thought on this.

Hope everyone who competed at Sectionals skated well and had fun!

Does anyone know how many Champ Gold Men advanced from Easterns? I know more than 4 qualified due to the fill-up rule but wasn't sure if it was 6 or all 7. TIA!
