I love my Sleep numbers- we are definitely loyal customers. I have had 3 different styles for myself. My first one was more basic (my husband didn’t want a lot of foam top). My number is 40 and his is 80 so the 2 sides are perfect for us. Both the head and foot go up and down, great for when I have a cold or asthma but my husband doesn’t like the head up. It actually has “magic fingers” massage setting too but I don’t use it much (due to the cat not liking it). I don’t think they have that anymore.
Then we bought a weekend house so my second one was a full split king with 4 inches of foam top. It is like 2 twins bolted together (with a little separation in the middle) so we could put both the head or foot up separately. Turns out, my husband loved the thick foam top and I did not! And my cat did not like the split in the middle of the bed- she usually slept right in the middle at the bottom, but with the split, she wound up between my feet at all times. It is now a guest room bed.
So when we remodeled the house and needed a second king bed, we got a split top only with 2 inches of foam top. Perfect! We both like it, I can put my top up, I can put his top up if he snores, and the cat can sleep in the middle. Spoiled cat! We got all these before the computerized sleep analysis, but my SIL got one and loves it. She thought she liked a hard bed, but when she did the analysis, her Sleep number is 30! No wonder she had hip and back pain. People don’t realize that supportive is not the same as hard.
I still use my first one in my small condo in the city, but it is about 16 years old now and has been moved around a lot so it has a very slow leak- I bought a topper for it which works great. You don’t notice the leak during the night
Both my mother and I needed new guest room beds and my mother wanted a basic one of her own so when they had a big sale, we replace old spring models with very basic sleep numbers- not adjustable head/foot. After trying them out ourselves, we got 2 inch toppers for them. For 2 of them, I got the basic base which works better than the 2 platform beds my husband built for the other 2- the wood bases don’t seem to have enough give for the air to even out. So I do recommend using the Sleep Number bases.
