The Nation of Kazakhstan and all the Skating Nations who are members of the International Skating Union are in shock and deep mourning this day following the senseless Murder of that nation’s first Olympic Medalist and great figure skater.

Blazing Blades sends the most heartfelt condolences to the Nation of Kazakhstan and the entire skating world for this tragic loss.

I ask and recommend to all ISU Member Officials that they urge the ISU Leadership to offer and work with Kazakhstan’s Skating Federation to put together a Spectacular Tribute in Denis Ten’s honor and to invite all the great skaters of the world to take part in a world wide webcast (free of charge) for all viewers wishing to share in such an honoring. This young man, a great leader of his country’s figure skating movement deserves no less. Please make this happen!

Respectfully,
Pete Murray, Blazing Blades founder and editor.

I also hope that there will be a scholarship or foundation made in his name... he was so proud of his country and wanted to bring more interest in skating to Kazakhstan. Hopefully children in Kazakhstan will have more opportunities to learn to skate and build more popularity there.

I was thinking that a competition could be established, a Denis Ten Trophy or Denis Ten Memorial, or a Denis Ten medal to honor and support each year a young, talented figure skater from a developing skating country.

This idea might be even better... a lasting legacy! Thanks Eislauffan.

Does Kazakhstan have civilian honours? For example, in Canada, people can receive the Order of Canada, for outstanding merit, and who make a major difference to Canada and Canadians (often athletes receive the honour). I think he would be more than deserving of some sort of national honour for his contributions to figure skating, and sport in Kazakhstan in general!

But I also agree - a benefit skate, or a memorial competition would be wonderful. I also think it would be a nice honour if at the first GP event of the season, and definitely Rostelecom (where he was scheduled to compete), if a moment of silence was held in his memory.

To have a moment of silence at Rostelecom Cup is a good idea. I will suggest this to the Russian Skating Federation. I already suggested to the German Skating Federation to hold a minute of silence at Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf. Junior Worlds 2007 in Oberstdorf was Denis' first ISU Championship and the starting point of a great career.

I also think it would be great if the spot he had will be left empty and not replaced in respect for Denis but also for the other skaters.

Yes, it would be very symbolic to leave that spot empty. The Russian and the German Skating Federation answered and both are considering to hold a minute of silence at Nebelhorn Trophy and Rostelecom Cup respectively.
I still can't believe that I have to write that.

I am shocked!!! I have been away from a wifi for the last several days, and had no idea of this. My deepest condolences to the Ten family and to the nation of Kazakhstan. Terrible loss for all. :(
