I feel like starting a supportive fan thread for Mexico's Donovan Carrillo, who will turn 19 in November, placed 22nd in his first Worlds in Milan this past spring (his IG photos/message: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bg0-MyyAIF8/?taken-by=donovandcarr ), and is working on 3A (practice clip: https://www.instagram.com/p/BlEb9fFH_io/ ).

Mexican news article after he competed earlier this month at the JGP in Bratislava (11th place): https://www.proceso.com.mx/548333/d...cuparme-mas-por-patinar-y-menos-por-el-dinero
Thanks to @cgirl8 for providing the link to this English translation on tumblr: Donovan Carrillo: “I need to worry more about skating and less about money”

His Junior programs in Bratislava (music listed in his ISU bio):
SP ("Jazz Machine" by Black Machine/"Picante" by Vanessa Mae): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o7IRexdy_0
FS ("Ya lo se que tu te vas" by Juan Gabriel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63A1WkuikJE

We don't have a cheer thread for Donovan, until now? Que lastima (sorry, no accents or upside down punctuation on this keyboard).

@StitchMonkey told me last year, when I was going to the 2017 Philly summer comp, you would probably like Donovan. Probably was right! What a charmer, what great performances, and a smile that lights up the rink.

He has so little support from Mexico itself and has done so much for their figure skating. I hope he gets that support and continues to improve!

Bravo, Donovan:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Oh, he is so charming. Wishing him a great season & much success! :cheer2:

ITA. Enjoyed that performance far more than I expected to. :cheer2::cheer2:

This kid has got charisma in spades, and his skating skills are not too bad, as well.

Look forward to seeing him in future!

Donovan Carrillo has a support/fund raising website it is legit and directly towards helping him to cost trips to competition, skating and coaching

As many know skating in Mexico is a low funding sport, we don't even have a serious skating association who can push the government to fund skaters like Donovan who is a rare gem in our country and he basically has to finance all his travels to compete.

As he is now entering his second season as a senior that is key, be able to compete, better training conditions. He is very loyal to his longtime coach so the coaching switch is not likely to happen unless things change completely and he is given an opportunity outside Mexico.

His website to help him raise money is:

https://donovancarrillo.com/apoyame

You can donate $50, $250 $500 USD (or put an amount of your desire) that will be charged one time or monthly if you specify. Is processed via paypal.

Hopefully some can contribute. I saw during the 4CC thread people asking about a crowdfunding option for him.

Thank you so much, Gracias!

Admins if this is breaking the rules in someway, sorry, I'll understand if the thread is erased but currently I did not find something about posting this kind of threads about supporting skaters fundraising

From Braulio’s post that CaliSteve posted above.

I was able to set up a monthly recurring donation through PayPal in case anyone else is interested.
I look forward to watching him develop through the years and reach his Olympic dream. <3

Did you use the Go Fund Me or the other one?

Donovan comments after the short program for Hielo Español(videos by Javier Raya)
https://youtu.be/Vrjt0oFlcac

My translation:
(I’m really out of practice(haven’t translated stuff in a while) but it was short and pretty basic so I felt I could do it,lol)

“Hello, I’m Donovan Carrillo, figure skater representing Mexico here at the world championships in Japan and I just finished my short program and well, I really enjoyed this competition and like I’m sure you know it wasn’t one of my best programs, but I tried to really fight for every element and I think I was able to connect with the audience which I think is very important. And now I’m ready to continue to prepare for next season.
Now I’m going back to Leon where I train in Mexico. The plan is to look for more difficult jumps and to attempt the quad salchow and toe loop to see how it goes and have them ready for worlds next year.
Well, greetings and a big hug for everyone watching in Mexico and Spain.
See you soon.”

IFS article published in the June 2019 issue: https://www.ifsmagazine.com/donovan-carrillo-blazing-a-mexican-trail/
Excerpt:
Despite his training conditions, when Carrillo competes he exudes a charm and presentation style — along with his infectious smile — that makes it easy for audiences to fall in love with him. “I want to give the audience the feeling that I have when I am skating. I want to share what I have inside with them,” he said. “I really like when people say things like, ‘You look like you are not stressed and are enjoying the competition.’ That’s what I want the audience to feel when I am skating. Even if the performance is not my best, that there is a positive energy in my programs.”

He draws inspiration from seven-time European and two-time World champion Javier Fernández who also came from a country where figure skating is not a priority. “Now people in Spain know the sport because of him, and I have grown up admiring him.”
Carillo posted a clip from his "In The Mood" SP back in June: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByaTHJlnHie/

I've seen recent IG stories of him working on both 4T and 4S; here's a 4T practice clip from one month ago: https://www.instagram.com/p/By6LOySnNo9/

I really like the contrast between the 2 programs this season (going by the Philadelphia fan cam vids).

... and doing quads in public sessions - wow!
