Really, if the current us admin get rid of gay marriage or legal abortion, sucks for us but how exactly will that effect tourists going to the Statue of Liberty in any other way than intellectually
Also on top of that even Gus Kenworthy (and Lisa Vanderpump) had to rescue and adopt dogs there...becaue you know there is a 90% chance they will end up on your menu and plate. That is once they are released from the cage wires wrapped around their bodies.
What about cows, pigs, sheep, goats, hens, geese? As far as I know, most of people eat meat today. If those who save dogs, don't eat meat, their special attention to dogs is still questionable. If they do eat meat - what is their point of view, actually? Is it something serious??
Judging the others is easy, but it is just arrogance.
probably tough for others to hear
Thank you.
Actually, my comment was not about animals, but about people.
I just think it is weird to say, that those who eat dogs (for example) are wild people from a wild country - today, when most of people from "decent" countries keep eating mammals and birds. What would it be, if not just arrogance?
UN is putting sanctions on Russia, that is news now.True but I’m not saying sport is more important than protest, I’m saying that there are better ways. The sanctions the UN is putting on Russia is having a much bigger impact than giving the 2014 Olys to another country ever would have imo.
A bit off-topic... This June 14th local article says Lake Placid is preparing to host the Winter Universiade in 2023: http://www.adirondackdailyenterpris.../orda-formally-commits-to-winter-universiade/I finally got to see Lake Placid. It is beautiful, but no way could it host the Olympics again. Very difficult to get in and out of Lake Placid - but that is part of its charm.
The board for the state Olympic Regional Development Authority passed a resolution Wednesday that will allow its CEO, Mike Pratt, to sign an attribution contract with the International Sports University Federation (FISU). This contract would create a partnership between and ORDA and FISU for Lake Placid to host the Winter Universiade in 2023. Some sporting events are also supposed to take place around the region in Plattsburgh, Potsdam and Saranac Lake.
The Winter Universiade, also known as the Winter World University Games, is an 11-day international event expected to attract more than 2,500 college athletes from 52 countries in sports such as hockey, figure skating, snowboarding, skiing and curling.
“Today is about us being committed to hosting this event,” Pratt said, “and moving forward officially with World University.”
The attribution contract is set to be finalized and signed Friday.
Lake Placid was the only bidder for the 2023 Winter Universiade, and the village was awarded the title of host city in March. Pratt and many other people involved with bringing the Universiade to Lake Placid said the event will strengthen North Country economics. In a previous interview, Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism President and CEO Jim McKenna said the Universiade would make people want to invest in the future of ORDA facilities and other North Country amenities.
The Swedish bid would stage events in Stockholm, Åre (320 miles from Stockholm), and Sigulda, Latvia. Sigulda is about 30 miles from Riga, which is, in turn, a one-hour flight or a sixteen-hour journey by ferry from Stockholm.I want Sweden.![]()

I realize that some Olympic events have been contested at a considerable distance from the host city (for example, the equestrian events in 2008 were held in Hong Kong rather than Beijing), but this proposal would deprive the 2026 of geographical cohesion.
Did citizens really want the Vancouver Olys? Because the Olys have been happening in most places thru sheer political strong arming for quite a while now.

You do raise a good point which is probably tough for others to hear. I have been through case studies at university that point out that people tend to care about animals they think are cute. There was a case years ago about some regulation on fishing nets off the cost of Florida that were unintentionally catching and killing dolphins. Cue the public outcry.
I admit there are indications that the treatment of dogs in Korea is even less humane than the typical inhumane standards of treatment of other animals elsewhere.
Im still waiting for Lake Tahoe to bid and be awarded. That would be amazing.
Now that I live in Northern CA, I would love going to the Olympics in Tahoe.

Yep. Reno. Reno-Tahoe has had an Olympic consideration committee for years and years. I hope that they get to bid someday soon.YUP, If Tahoe were to ever get it, I would camp out the whole month there!!!!!
Skiing would be perfect.. just trying to think where they would do all skating and village etc.... Maybe Reno??????
But Calgary must successfully sell a bid at home ahead of a Nov. 13 plebiscite before the city can start an international campaign, according to Calgary 2026 board chair Scott Hutcheson.
"Our view is we need to take care of our domestic interests first, make sure Calgarians are informed, make sure we're listening to Calgarians and that they understand what is in their prospective bid," Hutcheson told The Canadian Press from Buenos Aires.
The polling that I’ve seen shows majority approval; circa 50-55% in favour, about a third against, the rest either undecided or no opinion. If the Calgary reddit is any indication, there is not a lot of local enthusiasm for an Olympic bid in Calgary.
