2026 US Nationals Men's Free Skate "It's Raining Menning"

Apologies, but what does BOW mean? I googled it, but nothing makes sense in regards to figure skating. Thanks!

And I don’t know why some judges still gave him positive GOEs despite those ugly tilts—and sloppy landings too

Wow. No vids anywhere. Maybe later.
NBC Sports youtube has Ilia and Max. It's not much but you can see them here. Hopefully they're not geoblocked.

I have a feeling they're going with the top three, but I'd rather it be Ilia, Max, and Tomoki.

Why? Because Torgy makes me really nervous, and I think Tomoki is in better physical shape and on a roll.

If they really went with BOW they should go with Tomoki since he has outscored Torgs by a lot internationally, but the PCS dumpage today doesn’t make me hopeful for Tomoki’s chances…

Yeesh. Woke up to this mess. Poor Jason and his diehard fans.

I’ll go watch replay in a bit but the only thing that annoys me is Torgy being rewarded for his comments about Jason, which turned out accurate if not at all sportsmanlike. I’ll root for Ilia and Max in Milan.

Wow, what an event. :yikes:

I hope Ilia is OK. This kind of performance is exactly what I've been advocating for the team event.

Happy for Torgashev to finish a clear second. There should be no question about his inclusion on the team.

Thrilled for Naumov. They cannot bump from the team. There's no justification for doing so. Brown imploded and no longer has a triple axel, and even the easier triples are hit-or-miss. Hiwatashi had a couple of bronzes from challengers and a 4th on the GP, but also a 9th. Neither will be used for the team event. No spots are on the line, and even if they were, none of the guys seems good enough to finish at least 12th to help with maintaining three spots. I don't think anyone can make the case that it will make any difference to the US who goes and finishes in the 15th-30th range.

Jason Brown should do the classy thing and announce his immediate retirement, taking himself out of contention for any assignments. The quadless journeyman's journey had finally come to an end. Sad that he had to be taken off the ice with a shovel. It's of course up to skaters when to retire, but I wish more could choose dignified endings.

Nothing he said had anything to do with how ether of them actually skated. Torgeshev earned his spot with his skates and not his mouth.

Thanks. It worked when I set VPN to US

It was extremely poor of him to attack Jason when Jason was the reason the US men had three spots to begin with (and certainly no thanks to Torgashev). The fact that he is now benefiting from Jason's efforts while Jason will get nothing feels especially cruel and unfair.

Weir spilling the tea.

basically that there are backstage rumors that Jason has fallen out of favor

After ragging on Jason for his lack of a 3A for approximately forever, Johnny can sit this one out IMO.

Idk why Johnny felt the need to share that - but at least with my family and friends who only pay attention to skating during the Olympics, Johnny's comments not only came off as excessively catty and gossipy, but also came off like the team is "fixed", especially after they saw Tomoki's placement (yes, casual fans don't know rotation calls or the +REP penalty, but they were shocked he wasn't above Maxim)

Weir was very obviously, all the way back from the short program, trying to set up a narrative that the only way Jason could make the team was favouritism or fixing.

Torgashev finished second, and the US would've had two spots even without Jason. I don't see how he's benefitting from anything Brown did.

So sad for Tomoki:fragile: I was worried being in 2nd would be too much pressure. I feel sorry for Jason too, what a sad way to go out after all these years.

It’s not what I was hoping for at all but I think they should go with the top 3. Torgy’s score is too high to ignore and they surely can’t dump Maxim. ❤️‍🩹

I was pulling for Hiwatashi because he had the second-best international season for the men and made real progress in his skating this season. That said, his FS performance didn’t show consistency in jumping, his basics looked weaker than Torgashev and Naumov, and there wasn’t nearly as much interpretation in his FS compared to his SP. Hence, his lower PCS seemed warranted to me. YMMV

I’d choose the top 3 and be done with it.

Back from the comp and Jacob won the night for me. He just stepped up the performance level. Really don’t care who they pick at this point as the highlight wasn’t even in the last group.

I became a Jacob uber tonight.
I have been since his first junior nationals. I have seen him live twice at Cranberry Cup. I had a brief conversation with him and he is a polite young man. And he skates to the audience.
