2026 U.S. Nationals - St. Louis!

Today I received an email from USFS, announcing sale of tickets for the junior and novice events. Key info is as follows:

"Day passes for all junior and novice events at the 2026 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships are now on sale! The U.S. Championships will take the ice Jan. 4-11 with the junior and novice competition taking place Jan. 5-6 at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

"Day passes for competition on Monday, Jan. 5 and Tuesday, Jan. 6 can be purchased for $33 per day, including taxes and fees.

"Official practice sessions on Sunday, Jan. 4 are free and open to the public."

Refer to skipaway's post (above) for the schedule.

The $33 price includes taxes and fees. This purports to be the place to buy tickets for the junior and novice events: https://stlsports.org/special-event/2026-us-figure-skating-championships/junior-novice-tickets/. However, the webpage isn't responding for me at the moment.

when I went to Nationals in STL, my seat was in a row by itself and kind of high up like a lifeguard but not quite that high. I wonder if it still there it was rather awkward.

I am flying in on Tuesday morning Jan 6th and have 5 nights booked at the Magnolia downtown - 19 minute walk to the Enterprise Center according to Google Maps. I was planning on taking an Uber to the Centene Center from the airport to watch Juniors. Does anyone know if there will be any place for me to store my luggage at the Centene center? I will probably take another Uber to the Magnolia at the end of the day, unless there is a better USFS shuttle option.

Mr. Cass just surprised me with tickets to the free dance and men’s finals for Saturday night. I am so excited! We live close enough to St. Louis to drive up Saturday and back Sunday. I am too busy that week to go to the whole event and thought we would probably just skip it. So happy to be wrong!

I would not count on being able to bring your luggage and store it at Centene Center, but you can call them at 314-461-2244 to find out.

Above is a link to the renovated Union Station which is about 2 blocks from Enterprise Center. There are restaurants and concessions there (some have menus you can view on the website), as well as other entertainment options including the St Louis Aquarium and a large Ferris Wheel to get a high view of downtown STL. The Hilton brand Union Station hotel is connected to this venue. The Drury Inn is one block west, as I know some of you have booked there.

Has anyone heard anything more about a shuttle being offered to the Centene Ice Center to watch the novice and junior competitions?

I think they could have the casino hotel next door hold their luggage (especially if it's before check-in time). I'm betting they'll just assume they have a room there, and put the luggage in their storage room and give out a receipt tag and think nothing more of it. If they ask OP about the reservation, OP could just say something like "I'm here on business, nobody else has arrived yet, and I don't have any of the reservation details yet".

Because of revamping of USFS website ...

Official webpage:

skatestlouis2026.com (as mentioned in presser and by KSDK) redirects there.

The new USFS home page no longer seems to have a link to the USFS event page for Nats, but it can be reached via:

which redirects to

The USFS event page for Nats covers a couple of things (such as Boitano's Lounge, including Hall of Fame panel) that I have not seen anywhere on the St. Louis Sports Commission site.

Below is the link to USFS competitor list for Nats (which I think is a different URL from when press release originally was published on Nov 26?):

The first update to the list was Dec 1 withdrawal of Cooke/Kennedy from senior pairs.

For people staying downtown for the event looking for fresh foods there is Schnuck's Downtown at 315 N. 9th Street (about a 10-15 minute walk northeast of Enterprise Center, depending on traffic and lights). It's a fully stocked grocery store, the only one in the downtown area.

For anyone staying in one of the hotels on Washington Avenue there is also a DGX (a grocery store chain connected to the Dollar General chain), which has pre-made salads/sandwiches, etc. It appears they have snacks and fruits/veggies as well. The location is 622 Washington Avenue, just east of the convention center and the Embassy Suites (so by a metro stop).

Metro-Link (train) and Metro Transit (bus) information including routes and fare information can be found here: https://www.metrostlouis.org/ I'd recommend checking weekly for service changes at stations.

While they are "next door" it is actually about a 15 minute walk from the arena to Hollywood Casino and taking a quick look on Google Maps, I don't see any sidewalks linking the two. The photos there are from when Centenne was under construction so maybe they have been added, but....

After watching the GPF on Peacock and the wonderful commentary of Ted and Mark, I am seriously dreading the NBC (except Terry G) team commentary. Congrats to all who will be attending in person, you are the lucky ones.
Well we will have to endure Ashley Wagner screeching at us. She was unbearable in Boston…fortunately I brought my airpods with their noise cancellation feature.

IIRC, last year they had an international feed that featured less obnoxious commentary. Fingers crossed!

Yeah, I was about at my limit hearing Ashley yell "Give it up for!!!..." over and over and over. However, worst of all, was sitting next to a screamer who screamed at every.single.landed.jump--to the point it kept setting off the high decibel alert on my watch. So I'm not sure which is the more torturous: arena screamers or Tara and Johnny.

Having been to Hollywood Casino…a few times but not in the last year…it’s mostly wide open parking lots with no sidewalks. The main road leading up to Centene and then onto Hollywood can be busier during nights and weekends. If you walk along the edge of the lots, you should be OK.

I previously had a look on the satellite view to see how walkable it was:
  1. Walk straight down (southeast) the center parking lot concrete walkway
  2. Take a left at the end of it (east) and use the crosswalk to cross just north of the small roundabout
  3. Either walk straight (east) across the parking lot to get to the paved walking path, or for a shortcut, take the sidewalk to your right (south) to the handicap spots, walk east past about 8 spots, and cross a 10' patch of grass to the same paved walking path.

It looks to be about a 10 minute walk.

I was going to post a walking map via a Google Maps link, but I can't redirect the path onto actual crosswalks because they're not recognized in Google Maps (and I don't feel like submitting an edit to Google Maps right now -- it takes time for those to take effect anyway).

Hello Everyone!

Nationals will be here before we know it. I wanted to take the opportunity to give all of you some information on local attractions, things to do, transportation, restaurants, etc.

In this post I’ll highlight things to do and local attractions.

As most of you already know, the most quintessential St. Louis attraction is the Arch! Fun fact: it is the smallest National Park. I highly recommend reserving tickets if anyone plans to ride the tram to the top. There is also a really cool museum to explore along with a video, riverboat ride, and the Old Courthouse (separate tickets are required for these activities).

https://www.gatewayarch.com/

Another really fun experience that isn’t far from downtown in the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. There are several different tours that one can book (my personal fav is the one where you get to spend extra time with the Clydesdales). Beverages are included at the end of all tours.

City Museum is a blast for anyone, no matter the age. An old shoe factory, “City Museum is as much a playground as it is a museum. Exhibits consist largely of repurposed architectural and industrial objects, from colorful tiles to safety deposit boxes to stainless steel buffet pans, which decorate the veritable adventure park.”

https://citymuseum.org/

Not far from The Enterprise Center in Midtown is the City Foundry. In addition to a food hall, one can find a plethora of retail shops (my fav is Candle Fusion - a place where one can mix and pour candles) and fun experiences such as The Museum of Illusions, Putt Shack, VR simulations, a game show room, an escape room, live music and the Alamo Drafthouse. I love the food hall here and visit often

https://www.cityfoundrystl.com/

St. Louis Union Station is the closest attraction to the Enterprise Center. It is historic and fun to explore. The ride on the wheel is definitely worth a spin. In my opinion, the restaurants at Union Station are tourist traps and should be avoided. There is a hotel there that I believe is one of the event host hotels. If time allows, visit the bar at the hotel in the afternoon. It’s great people watching and they do a light show every hour.

In my opinion, the most incredible park in the world is Forest Park (home to the 1904 Summer Olympics and 1904 World’s Fair). The history is incredible and it is home to a world class zoo, an art museum, a history museum, and a science center (admission is FREE to all these locations). The adjacent neighborhood to the east of the park, The Central West End, is my neighborhood and is definitely worth exploring if you have the time. It’s home to the World Chess Hall of Fame and the world’s largest Chess piece. I may be biased, but I think my hood is a pretty damn cool place. Come explore, eat, and have a drink!

Next to the Four Seasons Hotel is the Horseshoe Casino. This is on the northern end of downtown and is walkable depending on where everyone is staying.

For those spending time attending the junior events, one can find historic downtown St. Charles. It’s a gorgeous area to explore that’s full of many wonderful shops and restaurants. There are also some good casino options in St. Charles.

https://www.discoverstcharles.com/things-to-do/main-street/

Of course, there is a lot more to St. Louis than what I have listed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if anyone feels like adventuring further out and seeing more of the area. I’m an open book!

There are many restaurants downtown and in the area surrounding the Enterprise Center. I can’t cover all of them, but I will provide all of you with a list of some local and personal favorites. Again, please feel free to reach out if you have questions about a place (especially if it isn’t included in this list).

Who doesn’t love a good brunch? My favorite brunch place in town is Fleur STL. Just south of Busch Stadium, it offers limited seating and mostly counter seating. Don’t leave if there isn’t a space available - they usually open up pretty quickly. If you visit, be sure to let Chef Tim know that Richard sent you!

https://fleurstl5.godaddysites.com/

Other good breakfast/brunch options near downtown/Midtown include Chris @ the Docket, UKRAFT Brunch Cafe, Chili Mac’s Diner, BLT’s (Breakfast, Lunch, and Tacos), and White Knight Diner.

Good options within walking distance of the Enterprise Center - Maggie O’Brien’s (Irish Pub), The Schlafly Tap Room (Local brew on tap, extensive bar menu, solid food), Lombardo’s Trattoria (Italian steak and seafood - fantastic), The Union Station Hotel Bar, and Syberg’s (wings). Again, I would avoid the restaurants at Union Station if possible.

There are many solid options downtown. One of the best places to start is Ballpark Village. This is the entertainment district around the baseball stadium. Many solid options here. A couple of my personal favs are Salt + Smoke and Katie’s Pizza and Pasta Osteria.

https://stlballparkvillage.com/

The Three-Sixty Rooftop Bar is located at the top of the Hilton at the Ballpark Hotel (another possible host hotel) and it offers some of the best views in all of downtown STL. The food is good, the atmosphere is great, and there are outdoor viewing areas that offer great opportunities for pictures.

https://www.360-stl.com/

Washington Avenue and the areas nearby offer a ton of fantastic options. Some of them include Aubergine Thai Cuisine, Sauce on the Side, Gyro Express (only open on weekdays), Sushi Ai, Sugarire, Hi-Pointe, Snarf’s, Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar, Pickles Deli (lunch/weekdays only), Burger 809, Ruth’s Chris, and Carmine’s. There are many more options, and as y’all already know, I am open to questions!

St. Louis is known for its barbecue. My personal favorite BBQ spot is Pappy’s Smokehouse. It’s not far from the Enterprise Center and is absolutely worth the trip. Be sure to check their hours if you do go (they close in the late afternoon on weekdays) and be prepared to wait for a few minutes in line. Also, if you go later in the day they may be sold out of certain items (usually the burnt ends and the brisket). Another good option downtown is Sugarfire. But def go to Pappy’s if you can!

https://www.pappyssmokehouse.com/

Also not far from the Enterprise Center is the Foundry Food Hall. I previously mentioned the Foundry for its attractions, the food hall is top notch. It’s only a mile from my home and I go all the time. My personal favs in the food hall are Turmeric Street Style and Kalbi Taco Shack.

https://www.cityfoundrystl.com/foodandbev

If time allows, definitely take an adventure into the Central West End (my neighborhood). Not only is it fun to explore, but there are some fantastic food and drink options here. Two places to add to your list are Brasserie and Scarlett’s Wine Bar.

https://cwescene.com/

The Hill is a great option for anyone who loves Italian. Just about any restaurant in the Hill is going to be a solid choice. Soulard, which is just south of downtown, offers several fantastic nightlife options and some solid restaurants. Dogtown, the Irish neighborhood, is located just south of Forest Park and also offers some great bars and restaurants. Anyone wanting to visit these areas will need their own vehicle or a rideshare to get there.

As far as transportation is concerned, Uber or Lyft will be your quickest and easiest option when traveling to and from the airport. Hop on the apps to check the rates at different times throughout the day to get an idea of what the fares will cost.

In addition to rideshares, there is also the MetroLink. You can ride the MetroLink from the airport all the way to downtown (and beyond into Illinois) with several stops along the way. For everyone staying downtown, the MetroLink will be a great option for getting to and from the Enterprise Center. The ride from the city center stations to the event venue will take about five minutes. You can ride the MetroLink to my neighborhood, Forest Park, the Foundry, Union Station, and many other places. I have used the MetroLink many times in my life and have always found it to be safe and secure.

https://www.metrostlouis.org/metrolink/

Walking is also an option depending on where everyone is staying. The walk from downtown (Busch Stadium area) to the Enterprise Center will take about twenty minutes. Please do not believe all the rumors you may have read or heard about crime in STL. I have spent a lot of time downtown and have never felt unsafe. Just like with any big city, be aware of your surroundings, walk with others whenever possible, and avoid the dark areas/back alleys. When in doubt, reserve an Uber or hop on the MetroLink!
