2026 Skate Canada and 2027 Canadian Nationals

Kelowna is a beautiful city. The first time I went was for a little touring show, I think arranged by Orser. Maybe Husky Skate the Nation? It was a short flight from Seattle.

For people who want to do both, if there are affordable flights from Victoria to Kelowna, a stop in Victoria on the way might be a better trip than spending more time in Seattle: you can see a lot more in Victoria in a short amount of time, and the Clipper leaves from downtown Seattle and arrives close to the downtown center of Victoria. The Clipper also has packages with hotels in Victoria, although prices should be check against other sites and the hotels themselves.

Kelowna is glorious! For those so inclined, a wine tour in west Kelowna is a super fun at to spend an afternoon. Quails’ Gate was my favorite.

When SC was in Kelowna before, the FSU contingent found that several wineries close for the season around that time of year. So check before you head out!

Driving to the Okanagan in the middle of winter is a nightmare. Even the airport is hit and miss.
It's a pain in a snowstorm (particularly the Coquihalla connector to Kelowna) but I've never thought of it as a nightmare - and that includes going up to Vernon for Christmas for many years as well as a lot of ski trips. There are a lot more days when the highways are good than problematic. And I haven't flown into Kelowna often, but have been hung up by weather in Toronto many times.

I lived there for two years. Due to the snow, I was gonna take a bus back to Metro Vancouver during the Holidays to visit my folks. I opted not to, and one of those buses got into an accident which resulted in the injury and death of several passengers. I have a very different perspective.

Re the coquihalla in winter I'm not surprised to hear this. I've been on it in foul weather. It's not fun.
