2026 Skate America in Everett, WA; Salt Lake City for 2027 U.S. Nationals - info/planning thread

Y'all are acting like USFS decided to change the date on a whim just to screw fans over. I'm sure something bad happened and they had to adjust. Whether it was an issue with Skate America or some other GP event (do we have a revised schedule to see what other events moved around?).

If anything, it says that someone in the GP circuit is bad at planning, more than anything about their attitude towards fans. Last year, SkAm switched to accommodate France. So last year, it was their issue, not USFS's. Who knows what the issue is this year.

I'm sure it will come out eventually. Personally, I am dying to know.
No. All we have is the doc someone found on the Finnish fed's website that showed the order was SkAm, SCI, CoC, GPdF, Finlandia, NHK.

What we currently now have is:
Wk 1 - ??? (originally announced by USFS as SkAm)
Wk 2 - SCI
Wk 3 - ???
Wk 4 - SkAm (originally announced by FFSG as GPdF)
Wk 5 - ???
Wk 6 - ???

We don't know which fed asked for a change. It might have been that the CFSA or JSF asked for a change and it started a cascade effect where more than one fed wound up agreeing to change their dates because of arena availability. We won't know much more until we at least get an announcement from the FFSG about the new dates for GPdF.

It's bad planning to switch the dates after they were announced and people started booking hotels, flights, time off work, etc. The ISU and/or USFS know that those bookings are going to start as soon as the date is announced. If something unexpected happened, then it would be respectful to the fans to explain why the change is necessary.
Well, it isn't just the USFS that has a change occurring after their dates have been announced. Hopefully the FFSG will have an announcement tomorrow.

Yes there are plenty and French team, fans, media want to keep their GP. + Angers is a very beautiful city (although difficult to reach by public transportation) unlike Boeing-Boring-Everett and France is still the most visited country in the world. Why do you even care? Do you ever attend any GPs?

Sure. Why not ALL the GPs in great again America especially these days with your wonderful sense of warm welcome? A beautiful dream on ICE...

Nobody is asking you to come. Yes we French are also extremely welcoming and friendly :2faced: Bye Felicia indeed. And that from someone who lives way closer to Italy than Angers which is a 8/9 hours drive versus 1 or 2

You must be a hoot and a half at parties.

I have a back up pharmacist that can definitely up your meds. And even a therapist that enjoys a challenge.

I would be REALLY annoyed if the event changed (with no reason provided) and I had booked hotels, flights, etc. And I'm cheap--always non-refundable! That will make me not want to make any advanced plans. I am going to Skate Canada, so this makes me wary to book hotels yet, even though they're pretty good rates.

Make it a double hoot. Ask the ones here who know me.

Seek help yourself. Oh but wait, too bad no one can cure prejudice and contempt. It generally goes along with imbecility Welcome to my ignore list. I have not used it for at least 15 years, congratulations, it's a real feat!

You are a flat out lunatic with your emotions unable to be controlled.

I suggested maybe giving Grand Prix France a break just like there’s no longer Grand Prix of Germany (nations cup) other countries have developed more talent. Typically Finland and sometimes France can’t even fill their three host spots in all the disciplines so there’s no shame or anything wrong with having other countries participate for hosting.

And it’s an honor to be on your ignored list. You are disturbed like a Trump taco Tuesday.

Sweets, back off. By your logic both China & Japan should also back off of regularly hosting a GP since they also, routinely, aren't able to fill all the host spots in every discipline - Japan especially has never used all its dance or pairs spots.

New dates for Skate America (Nov 12-15) overlap with Midwestern Sectionals+Dance Final dates (Nov 9-15) -- in case it matters to anyone.

It matters....

Sorry, I should have remembered that it definitely would matter to Team IDC.
Thanks to all of you for faithfully travelling to Dance Final every season to provide reporting and photos!
I know that your presence and coverage always mean a lot to the dancers.

(I was cross-checking dates because I am hoping to get myself to SCOB for Eastern Sectionals+Pairs Final, which are the week before.)

ANL is PC's ex?

Can the thread title be changed to add something like "date change!" I would have missed this entirely if I hadn't seen a note about it on reddit. The original dates didn't work for me, so I wasn't paying attention to this thread. Not sure if others might be similarly situated. I can probably make the November dates work.

I’m guessing that US Figure Skating got word the week before the original SA sale that a change was possible, hence the delay.

I would guess this is to help out another federation because two comps in the same area of the country within two months of each other wouldn’t be their choice.

i know I am in the minority and I probably still won't go, but.. I feel like a late date is so MUCH better than being the first stop. IMHO the programs seem to feel "half baked" early on especially with dance and pairs. I feel like later you get better programs. But Everett is just a painful flight from Atlanta for this event :)

If you're just watching on TV, I don't think it matters. So, who cares?

This is about people who made travel plans. And a 2-3 weeks difference when the event is in Washington State is a bigger deal than if it is going to be held in, say, Arizona.
Oh, no doubt! The weather in mid-November is usually far rainier and overcast, not to mention cooler here in the PNW than what we experience in mid-October. Of course, it's not at the Lake Placid level "there will very likely be snow!" but it's still a difference and may very well change people's plans to do any sightseeing before or after.
