2026 Olys Team Event PBP Day 3 - When Your Bum Hits the Ice and Your Legs In the Sky - That's Errore!

I've already made peace with the fact that the US is winning this and Japan won't have a chance at a team gold for several more cycles until they get their shit together in ice dance. I mean, look, an Olympic silver medal is a huge accomplishment and it only bolsters Kaori's and Yuma's and RikuRyu's already impressive resume. And congrats to Utamasa and Shun for winning their first ever Olympic medal.

Now about Georgia vs. Italy. I asked Gemini about the tie and apparently Georgia would win the tie break. Damn. Ok, since Canada can't medal, I really wanted Italy to win a medal at home. I'll try to think positively about the situation. For a long time, I looked at Gleb Smolkin and thought this guy is Olympic medal material, I can see that happening for him, so there, at least my little prophecy would come true even without switching partners.

ETA: I missed Egadze's skate because I had too much anxiety. Maybe I should skip the rest too.

Nika Egadze 🇬🇪

A subpar performance from Egadze should solidify the Bronze medal for Italy.

Is this a new costume for Egadze? A new program? Where is the brown monstrosity I am remembering? And this song seems more like something a Canadian would skate to.

Did Ambergate erase all my memories of this season's mens programs?

As Italy collectively says in the words of Carly Patterson after Romania boffed the beam in the 2004 TE: well, that's just too bad.

Just to note, I don't hate Egadze by any means and hope he gets better programs next quad that bring out his personality.

Poor Nika. It's really tough that this skate might have cost Georgia the medal.
Or I will be pissed if it doesn't.

Nika, you'll always have your Euro's title. Wish he could have skated a bit better here though, but the Olympics is just a different beast.

Welp the conventional arm chair skating wisdom (and podcasters) was Amber short, Alysa free. (Mine was Alysa and Isabeau but we know that wasn’t up for debate). But who knows what went on behind the scenes to arrive at the reverse. Sending a nervy skater to do a free skate first time on Olympic ice in a very very high pressure situation…a gamble that didn’t completely pay off. But it has made this an incredibly nail biting, nerve wracking event. Incredibly edge of the seat stuff! Like Ashley said, great TV!

I'm very confused by this. I don't listen to podcasts, but most of FSU thought Alysa short and Alysa free or Amber short and Amber free.

Also, the free skate is much lower stakes than the SP. Why would a nervy skater do better in the SP where it is much easier to lose a lot of points.
