2026 Olys Team Event PBP Day 3 - When Your Bum Hits the Ice and Your Legs In the Sky - That's Errore!

I’m sorry but throughout the years, I never understood the hype behind Amber speaking strictly of skating. Like the fans here seem so into her and she just seems… there.

She doesn't have the edge quality of the Japanese ladies, or the refined polish of someone like Isabeau, but (imo) there's a heart-on-her-sleeve quality that even comes through both live and on the TV that makes her compelling. Plus her speed is unrivaled by other American ladies.

On top of that, after watching her struggle for about a decade, to finally see her put it together and become (relatively) consistent adds to her story: an underdog finally achieves the title story we usually only see in movies.

Welp the conventional arm chair skating wisdom (and podcasters) was Amber short, Alysa free. Mine was Alysa and Isabeau but we know that wasn’t up for debate). But who knows what went on behind the scenes to arrive at the reverse. Sending a nervy skater to do a free skate first time on Olympic ice in a very very high pressure situation…a gamble that didn’t completely pay off. But it has made this an incredibly nail biting, nerve wracking event. Incredibly edge of the seat stuff!
I think the SP would have been even more unnerving where she could have done worse than place third. The SP is where you want to put the skater who can hit and set you up well going into the LP, not send up a less consistent skater to make the hole you have to dig your way out of deeper and with less skaters to place between you and the skater on the most competitive team.

I know this may be tacky, but the more I see Ashley Wagner’s suit that she’s wearing, the more I hate it. It seems like the skirt needs to be a bit longer and the whole outfit needs some different color (than just the red) somewhere. Like maybe some black tights?

To the Amber skeptics who say her programs are flat or her skating does nothing. Sometimes it’s more than just music and jumps.

Her ability to inspire and represent a marginalized community and her heart for caring for others is worth more than a 150+ FS.

Perhaps the negative Nancy’s are leaning into their conservative values to disqualify how much of an ambassador she is on and off the ice.

When the vast majority of people like a person, you have to ask yourself, what’s wrong with those who don’t.
No, my skepticism about Amber and her being a headcase is a well-established fact from long before she decided she needed to speak on politics or anything else. Check my posting history here if you doubt that.

And, frankly, none of THAT stuff matters to what she actually delivers on the ice when it comes to the scoring. Today was more of the same that we've seen from her time & time again, especially in major competitions. There was solid, sound reasoning to not put her in the TE SP since she's had issues with the 3a in the SP in 3 of the 5 major competitions she's competed in during the past 2 seasons. She's bounced back in the FS, for the most part, after those errors at both GPFs and Worlds, but it was always going to be a risk to put her in cold in this FS because she has a tendency to tighten up and make mistakes in high pressure situations.

It is what it is and I appreciate the work she's done over the past few seasons to get herself to a higher level of consistency and I certainly have no issue with her being an Olympic Champion if Ilia is able to deliver in a little while, but this was very much what I was expecting out of her today, especially after seeing the pukeface she had backstage & as she took her starting position.

OMG you guvs! Keep the racist, pollitical shit out of it and just enjoy the voids. My goodness, what has happened to this board? ****in A

Wasn’t that a different scoring system? In 2018, there wasn’t a +/-5 GOE scale.

I’m not conservative. I’m here because I like figure skating. I’m sure she’s a great person but I’m allowed to not like her skating.
Does plus +3 from the old system give a different bonus than +5 from the new?

NBC is now giving an update on the men’s hockey team. It looks like 🇺🇸 has some “old school” designed jerseys. 😀

Got my mom set up to watch the men live on the venue feed. But she’s about 10 seconds behind me and neither of us want to watch it with the other. Technology, gotta love it.

You could just say you hate her politics. Would say you some time typing. ;)
