2026 Olys Mens SP PBP - A Minion Ways to Dies (Irae)

Honestly, it may be better for Yuma to be 2nd than 1st. When Yuma skated last in the FS at the GPF it went quite poorly for him. I can only imagine Ilia skating a 7-quad FS here, the crowd going nuts, and Yuma having to follow that when he has no chance for gold. I think he's more likely to skate clean going before Ilia than after him, especially if going after him means Yuma knows there is no chance for him to win.

So I'm watching the venue feed on Peacock and during the beginning of Cha's skate (whom I adore, especially his step sequences) and my husband tells me something he saw on the internet that was so earth-shattering that I couldn't believe it was true but still accidentally closed my feed while I researched it. And, of course, this incredible news was nowhere to be found on any and all legit media sources. And, once again, I reminded hubby not to automatically open any click-bait news link he sees. :wall:

Maybe you need to sell him seeing he obviously is no use when it comes to interrupting skating watching.

Forget the weird camera angles, my Peacock decided to cr@p out just as Ilia took his opening position.
While we did subscribe to Peacock just for this month for the Olympics, I am thanking my hubby for installing an antenna in our attic for network television after we dropped our ridiculous old cable package. The skating coverage on NBC has frankly been much better - I didn't get any weird camera angles or dropouts for Ilia's program.

What kind of Alysa Liu juju did the men drink?!!! What are we in for in the other disciplines to balance the scales?!! I might have maybe sort of kind of scheduled a test so I could watch and will now rewatch so I can see it on a real TV with the volume.
I suspect we will pay for it in the free skate on Friday. :shuffle:
My thoughts exactly.
Delete this fam.
C'mon... You've been around long enough to know that the men are gonna men something hard on Friday, lol. It's becoming a similar deal with pairs, though not quite to the same extent yet.

Oh, so my mom texted me during the 2nd group of men and it was her only text of the day during the SP - She said "Loved the Ukrainian skate just now" - so, Kyrylo impressed people who aren't familiar with his game already.

Beyond seeing some amazing and Olympic worthy performances tonight, I had a a wonderful humbling experience with a remarkable young German woman named Karoline. She gave me permission to share her story.

She is battling a serious illness and her trip to the Olympics to see men’s figure skating was part of a Male-a-Wish type program. She didn’t elaborate, but said she’s limited to being out about 4-5 hours a day.

She’s a huge Adam SHF fan and even made a tribute video of him. She said he liked her post!

Watching her watch the skating made the night even more special.

It reminded me how skating and sport can bring people pleasure in times of great pain. I know it’s sappy, but a good reminder to us all (myself included) to be kinder to people, even strangers on a message board.

So as we are likely going to be very divided over the rest of the skating results, especially after the free dance - let’s take a minute before posting - and try to be respectful to each other, to the skaters, their costumes, coaches, music and anything else.

I’ll try and likely fail (see my snarky post earlier about Eteri and hugs). I’ll also try to remember Carolina and her positive outlook and passion for just being present and enjoying the skating.

Great night of skating. Again, I started the night grumbling about ticket prices, and I ended the night feeling privileged to have seen it live.

Judging was spot on my book, except for Gummenik, who should've been lower. I kept saying, "I'd put [X] here, but I don't think the judges will do it," and they'd proved me wrong.

Highlights: Naumov, Marsak, Torgashev, Cha, Aymoz, Siao Him Fa, Malinin, Kagiyama

Beyond the top skaters: Marsak had the some of the highest quality jumps in the entire competition. Adam Hagara is a diamond in the rough and could be really great; I hope he continues to develop. Gogolev looks ready to be a contender now, after a few retirements or breaks.

Lowlights: Looks like Litvintsev managed to be last even despite the panel NOT calling the aborted jump as a jump element :yikes:. Lost a bunch of levels, had negative GOE, and the crazy combo only ended up getting 3 points, so not much difference from a forced 0 for the aborted quad. That combo was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen!

Re: the PCS discussion, I'm not sure why Kagiyama wasn't 9.5 to 9.75 on all. To me, Ilia is an 8.5 - 8.75 skating skills, but deserves higher (9 - 9.5) for composition and performance. There is complex choreography, a strong point of view (even if it's 21-year-old straight guy one), and he delivers with command and ease.

Siao Him Fa skated with more control, but lost some of the wild speed and abandon he normally has. I also find his program a bit emptier between the elements. I'm OK with Malinin tying or beating him on PCS today.

If any skaters were hard done on PCS, I'd say Junwhan Cha and Andrew Torgashev, who had probably better speed and ice coverage than anyone except Kagiyama.

Agree with pretty much all of this. Cha should be closer to the top 3. The US men justified their selection today. I don't think Jason Brown would have changed much.

So sad for Miura and his skating boot issues.

And can we celebrate how many of the men skated cleanish - what a lovely thing to watch!!!

My friend texted me that she must be over emotional today because Kyrylo and Max made her cry and I was like "no, that's normal emotional"

Yes, the prudes in this thread are just old, fuddie-duddies. Who also recognize that figure skating is NOT the same thing as a night out hitting up the clubs.

There are millions of little kids who watch the Olympics every four years and I'm not sure I see the point in throwing butt cheeks in their faces the way Fournier-Beaudry does in the RD. The same can be said about a lot of the dresses we see on skaters every year there is a Latin RD theme.

Also, don't forget, there are plenty of us who didn't care for Loena's nude leotard bottom of her FS dress 4 years ago.

You may not be nearly as concerned about modesty as some of us and that's your prerogative, but that doesn't mean that, in this instance, you're in the right about it.

Sleepily as I’ve finally wound down from the event:

The Righteous Brothers did the definitive version of Unchained Melody in 1965.

That was a super event in general, where a step out on a jump could cost a guy ten placements.

The top three have been my preferred podium for years, but if someone falters on Friday, only Cha is allowed to replace him.

Yuma was amazing and Ilia has his mojo back but Adam was the skate of the night.

And Milanese massage therapists should line up in the Metro train station next to the arena after each night of skating. Oy those seats.

WON’T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!! :drama:

PS: You’re in the wrong thread. :saint:

Tell me you’ve never been to the Palavela without telling me you’ve never been to the Palavela.

In other news, this is how real Presidents support their Olympians.
