I keep seeing things in the press and online that say more than two disciplines can be split. I'm sure they are up in the night.

Yes, for the Team Event, any fed can split up to two disciplines if they have multiple entries in the individual disciplines.

Ilia just showed that he is willing to do a watered-down long. Any chance at all that he could be talked/bribed into doing something like that in the team event?

Ilia with a two quad FS is leagues better than Torgy and Maxim at their best, and way less of a meltdown risk than those two

Ahhh. No, they can't split all four. Some people would like that to change, but I think the rationale behind only being able to split 2 is to give countries with slightly less depth a fighting chance at medals & placements.

Not meaningless, but I'll bet Ilia would vastly prefer the individual gold. I'll bet most in his position would.

Of course, but this is Ilia who is nothing if not wildly ambitious. There's no way he's not imagining himself winning two gold medals at the Olympics. Very few have done so, I think just Volosozhar/Trankov, Virtue/Moir, and Nathan Chen.

Yes, two golds at the same Olympics. I am not talking about Sonja Henie or Irina Rodnina.

Although now that I think about it, Ilia probably is thinking about winning two in 2026 and another two in 2030 to be the first with four Olympic golds.
