2026 Olympics Day Two General Thread - It’s All Downhill From Here

OUCH! You could hear her screaming! Hope she will be okay. I cannot imagine competing after that. Must be unnerving.

That was horrible. Could have done without the slow motion replays. She caught her arm in a gate and that was it. The commentators are saying it was surprising her skis didn't automatically come off and that wouldn't have helped in the crash.

:respec: to Vonn for giving it a shot. Competitive downhill skiers are adrenaline junkies chasing that thrill. They know the risks.

Glad I didn't see it :(. Seemed like a foolhardy decision to compete. I'm all about freedom, but also common sense.

EH, was the crash related to her ACL or was it the type of crash that could have happened to any of these skiers?

My question with Vonn not withdrawing is how realistically likely would she have competed well? And was there a skier in line (who wasn’t already in the Olympics in another event) who was healthy enough to compete?

She caught her elbow in the pickets. That caused the crash. She qualified in her training run, therefore she could compete. It's not like figure skating with alternates.

The Italians are crushing the men's giant slalom snowboarding event. but it looks like the 40 yo Austrian is doing great as well. Boarders be crazy This is like surfing or other elimination sports as the riders do elimination runs with the finals being between the top 2 and the bronze between number 3 and 4.

ETA the Flying Fish just got shut out in the quarter finals of the men's giant slalom and he is not happy. Like beating the barrier not happy. He was a favorite for gold and now no medal at all. One little mistake and you're out. The Italians crushed the early rounds but none made the men's finals. There's still a chance in the women and Delmasso earns bronze by 0.01 points. This is why I like the alpine and speed events. It doesn't matter what your body of work may be or who the judges favor. It only matters what you do in real time in the competition.
