2026 Canadian Championships - Senior Women SP & FS

She's going to lose a bit of TES when the Lutz gets called e, but looks like she might snatch the gold anyway.

A couple of these jumps looks a little suspect to me. I think this will be enough, but I also bet SC wants Schizas to go to the Olympics as the national champion.

It was well skated, but she does look a little junior, especially right after Gabby’s speed.
I don't think it matters much if Maddie goes as national champ or not - probably not as much as we think anyway.

I have no idea what Kwon's actual status is but best case scenario could she compete at Bavarian open (it is on the Skate Canada international assignments page) to get her jr worlds CTES minimums and go to jr worlds this year.

UR's and edge calls got her, but that was SO well skated. Minsol has a great future and a great ladies event! So well skated! Yes there's still much work to do but this nationals has been a great event to see the talent out there. Proud of the effort our women put out there today. They can hold their heads high!

Live in the arena I did feel like Minsol's speed and ice coverage were a bit lacking, but she is only 15 and has time to develop that. She is a beautiful skater.
She is 16 (turning 17 next month per her ISU bio). But I agree with you.

I thought the event was judged correctly. Was so happy to see Madeline come back so strongly. Gabby seemed upset but she has been away for awhile and she actually did quite well although not the finish she wanted. Wish we could send 2 women and 2 men.............

This was a great women's event honestly.

Seems the 4CC team should be Daleman, Landry and Dupuis.

Maybe Woodley to junior worlds (or maybe a skate off at Bavaraian Open which is on their assignments page).

I would love to see Pomerleau get a spring assignment.

Also national team assignments will be interesting. Will Kwon be named if she's not released to skate for Canada? Will Daleman retire after this year? Who will get the host picks at SCI.

Woodley, Rose and Shi can skate senior internationally next season. Hopefully there will be a strong Canadian presence on the International circuit next year.

Still - it's incredibly hard to break into the top 10 at worlds with all the talented skaters and those who may choose not to do worlds after the olympics are backstopped by deep talent at home so chances for a Canadian lady to break into the top 10 is still a major challenge. That said it just speaks to the strength of women's skating now, which can't be a bad thing, right? And it's still so great to see so many wonderful skaters here at home even if few will have the biggest international opportunities.

I'd give the next gen program a few years before declaring it a success. It's based on focusing on the most "promising" skaters as early as possible. If that model had been in place before, Canada's last women's world champion probably would have been shut out before she reached her full potential.

She was juvenile and novice national champion. And second (maybe 3rd?) as a junior. I don’t see how she would have been shut out of anything next gen related.

But I would agree we can’t declare everything is excellent and fixed. I think it is extremely impressive that this level of depth has been created though. This number of women landing triple triples would have been unthinkable even a few years ago.

The arena went dead silent after Kwon’s marks came up. And with the lousy cell service and lack of wifi couldn’t check the protocols until now for the explanation. I did try to mention to a few spectators around me that her skating really lacked power and possibly a few downgrades but that did not go over well with a couple of folks.
