I love Yuma as much as anyone (well, not as much as @tony) but he isn’t going to have Ilia’s jump content, he actually has fewer quads than Shoma did, UR as they might have been. Adam looked to be competitive with Ilya last year but not this. Ilya’s second mark is deservedly good although he shouldn’t be in Yuma’s class in skating skills (no one should.)

Basically if I’m a top guy, I’m scratching my head as to how to beat Ilia, because he’s a unicorn.

They're sending Jason to worlds over Camden? Am I seeing that right on the US figure skating Facebook?

WTF. I’m no big Camden fan but USFS does not get it.

Disagree, but there’s a discussion happening out in the US men’s thread, so I don’t want to repeat my thoughts.

Or really in the world.
There's a kid in Russia who has landed a 4A and other quads, and he has been nominated to the be a neutral athlete at the Olympic qualifier. If he passes the vetting process, then we might see someone else with tech content higher than Siao Him Fa's.

I like Siao Him Fa, but too many of his landings have little flow out of them. Not that Malinin's are always perfect -- a few per free skate are usually biffed, aside from rotations -- but some of them are textbook and could be on the ISU instructional videos, just like his mother's.

Watching on delay.

Malinin suffers again here from just spending so much time on the quad race. The short program is so perfect for him. This-- is not IMO. I really loved the glorious nuanced changes of edge on the landing foot out of the 4Lz early in the program though. The artist is in him, but the sloppiness and the lack of basics really shows here. As far as calls- 4Lo for sure <<, 3S < and 3A < are what I'd probably go. I think Kagiyama could potentially challenge but he has to be spot-on and Ilia needs big rotation errors to come in, because his PCS isn't going back down no matter how much I pull out the rulebook and question where the 9's are coming from. BTW, I thought the little stumble on the backflip came more from him trying to land it on one foot than anything else.

Torgashev was glorious. He was more into this program than I've seen him in any performance the last few seasons, and the choreography really showcased his strengths in flow and ease, including some of the jumping passes coming out of little to no set up. He should easily be eclipsing Malinin in PCS as it is, and I'm glad he's gotten so consistent as of late (bla bla.. thought it was gonna happen in 2018 for him). But to watch where someone can earn a 9.00-level PCS, watch the ease of the directional skating, the speed he gains from nothing and the lack of crossovers and two-footed skating required, the posture, etc. And he should gain tremendous GOE for his entries, exits, the running edge and speed in out of the jumps, and so on.

Pulkinen really came to life with the latter part of his program. I really like his foundational skating and always find myself getting into his performances, but the middle of the program loses me a bit. I can see the reason behind naming Brown to Worlds even with Jason having nothing to show for this year, but I'm also wondering if USFS nudged Jason to withdraw in the first place to make the initial naming possible to begin with. If he's not landing a 3A, I'm sure a clean 2A or even a wipeout on a << 3A in the short still gets Jason to the free based on the strength of the other elements and the PCS, but asking for the other two jumping passes to also be clean is questionable from what we saw in the fall.

Naumov in 4th again, Ma in 5th (probably again, I think he's been there at least once before). I think the top 3 are definitely a step above even with some cushion between. I hope Strommer gets a 3A some day at the least, because his skating is so pretty. And of course Samuel Mindra was always enjoyable. Liam Kapeikis needed a coaching change 3 years ago at this point.

I think it's more that Ilia generally did what we expected him to do. His tech content is obviously insanely good, it feels almost tedious to talk about it every time he skates.
I get what you are saying, but I’m not close to tired of talking about it. I’ve been watching skating for decades and it blows my mind every time what he is doing because no one in the history of the sport has been able to consistently do what he does or even try to do what he does in competition.

No one is stopping you from talking about it. I just don’t understand why talking about it had to include insulting everyone else in the thread.

Sometimes, "We " need to have reputable media outlets double-check facts and not take what someone is saying on tv for granted.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm not sure why you felt the need to go back and find that, but I'm so glad you're following your truth.

NBC IS a reliable source and shouldn't have employees publicly giving incorrect information on air. There's nothing inappropriate about believing what was said on air on a major network broadcast.
