Finally have a good custom title after tonight.

I like Isabeau’s SP a bit more at this point (would have preferred Cinema Paradiso to be instrumental) but it’s wonderful to see her back skating this beautifully. ITA she’s locked for Milan.

And good for Mone. Agree the program’s on the standard/generic side unfortunately but still excellent to watch.

Ok so, some totally not fancy GPF calculations. Nakai is most likely IN. Isabeau not completely out, but she'll need help. Anyone else done with their GP events? Jia Shin completed hers last week and sadly she's out.

Nakai is 100% in. Only a win can get anyone else in, and only 6 people can do that. She's one of them. 2+2 will not beat her.

Levito most likely won't make it but you never know.

Mone’s skating is lovely and so strong from a skating skills perspective, but yeah, somehow that program left me a bit cold.

I haven't really liked Mone's programs aside from her gypsy program from a few seasons back, but she is a very talented skater. That step sequence soared. I really enjoy both her and Isabeau but I think this was a well-deserved win for Mone.

I don't know if that is quite the case if they called both of her solo axels in the short and free and the combo in the short.

None of the main contenders except Isabeau & Ami are done with their GPs yet. Next week we have Kaori, plus Loena & Wakaba debuting; SkAm has Alysa, Gubs, Wakaba & Rinka; Finlandia has Loena, Mone, Rion, Amber & Bradie.

Three < calls for Levito, and four qs for Chiba -- but nothing on the clearly underrotated double axel.

Very controversial to consistently pick the lesser penalty for one skater and the harsher for the other. As others have said, q is bullshit (generally).

! on one of Levito's flips (don't get it), but no ! or e for Chiba's lutzes.

Levito also had her first combo spin downlevelled to a 3 (did she miss eight revs on the sit?) and the final combo spin to a 2. I had a feeling the last one would get downlevelled to a 3 over the jump, but I can't figure out what else was wrong. Did she not hold the outside edge long enough? (ETA: watched it again and guessing they're saying she didn't hold the camel for two full revs before switching to the outside edge.)

The calling was harsher today, but not consistent IMO. Free skate should've been a lot closer or edge Levito, IMO.

I just always hesitate to say that something is 100% certain because I have my stats professors from a thousand years ago yapping in my brain "nothing is ever 100% blah blah blah blah, probability this, probability that". But yes, realistically, she's in. Isabeau is more likely out than in, likely will be an alternate, but stranger things have happened.

No combination of results can get six women ahead of her because she won an event (along with her bronze). Two silvers goes behind her in the tie-break. Only five women besides Nakai can win gold medals.

The US, yes, Japan not so much. The third spot is still a toss up, IMO. It's probably going to Nakai, but she's not exactly the most consistent of skaters, so there's room for someone else to knock her out at J-Nats.

Levito has terrible jumps!! Terrible. I can’t believe she is getting as far as she is. The technique is barely better than Caroline Zhang at her worst! I mean people are being CRAY!!! And she isn’t even terrible on Ultra c elements. These are supposed to be Normal everyday jumps! She’s just terrible.

Not in the past. I may have missed it, but I haven't seen the criteria for this year.

There were a few Olympics where they'd choose a skater from each of X tiers, with X being the number of spots. The first tier was National Champion, if age-eligible. The second tier was a few things, including the highest placed skater at GPF. (Or maybe the second highest if the National Champion was the highest.) But they could choose someone who had one of the other second tier criteria, and bypass a skater who won GPF. Then those bypassed would join the third tier, which would include other skaters, if they had three spots.

You can take the lady out of the US, but you can't take the US Ladies out of the skater, I guess. Poor Sarah, too. That protocol is brutal. Bradie was cleanest of the US ladies with only 2 < and a q.

Next week will be interesting to see how Loena does. The NHK field is wide open beyond Kaori, IMO; and that Finlandia field is packed, so my thought is that whomever finishes 2nd at NHK could definitely put themselves in the mix for the GPF.

They have for Worlds the past few seasons but I also haven't seen their Olympic selection process.

Well, I watched I was just too tired to go into the threads, I guess it was OK, I was hoping Isabeau technical did not come down by 10 points.

Halfway through the Grand Prix series all the medalist come from Japan and USA. Can Loena break the cycle next week?

Otherwise, I think GP finals are 5 Japanese and Amber, or 4 Japanese and Amber and Alysa..

I know Nakai is still quite young and juniorish but she is showing tremendous musicality and interpretation for someone her age. I hope she stays healthy whatever happens this year so that we can enjoy her more.

I don't know why I don't love Chiba. She is so good, but I don't. Something about her doesn't excite me. But 10 seconds into the programme, the difference in skating skills was like night and day with everyone else that isn't Japanese. Well-deserved win.

Shout out to Aoki, because she is one of the most musical skaters to ever grace the ice. Now this is how you accentuate music highlights everyone.

And to Lara who had the most interesting programme, though I was taken back by the Inception soundtrack part of the programme.

Isabeau did the best she could, but her technique is holding her back. We have known this for a while. But I love how polished she is. She has got the best arm positions in the field.

Just waking here. Mone`s score was so much higher than Isabeau`s I thought she`d thrown in an 3A. Shocked to see they had similar content. I`ll take the word of those in the arena that Mone`s skating is very good. But, this FS is such a bore. I`d buy a ticket to see Isabeau`s, but wouldn`t cross the street to get a free ticket for Mone. Soooo...much emphasis on pristine skating artistry is left in the dust. And, it gets us back to little-girl skating because jumping is easier for them. Boo to these judges. Maybe after coffee I`ll feel differently.
