2025 NHK Trophy Free Dance PBP - Hmmm for the Weekend

Still not a fan of the last section with "Auld Lang Syne" but I really enjoy this FD from FearGib. They really do capture the essence of Scottish highland dancing in this program and they have the audience with them from start to finish.

They always bring the fun. Outfits so cute. Still seems more like an exhibition than an Olympic medal skate. But Guignard and Fabbri are not better in my book sorry to say.

I really enjoy this team from a technical standpoint when I mostly watch Lewis

Judges scores be damned, the last minute of this dance just doesn't gel with the rest for me. It felt cleaner than in France and their spacing issues were a lot better here.

Fear & Gibson into the Final. Guignard & Fabbri with 4th (not very well-scoring) and 2nd are probably out unless C&P finish 2nd next week and lose to them on tie-break, and then Z&K finish 4th or lower in Finlandia and also lose the tie-break. They need a lot to perfectly happen.

I get they're not the strongest skaters, especially her, but the whole is stronger than the sum of its parts, whereas I feel like with the Italians it's the opposite. The individual components yes are far superior but it doesn't add up to anything.

Masters of reading the shifting rules to Ch elements and taking advantage. Plus, they are the ONLY team from the top 4 at Worlds (yes, I'm testing the waters again at the end of a dance thread) who actually really stepped up the content this year. They were almost always doing Ch element to Ch element with little in between, but they've packed this program in.

It’s past my bedtime. For those continuing on to pairs, may the force be with you.
It's not past mine but I've been sick. I still plan to stay up all night to watch it all live.

Also, I changed the Pairs FS and the commercial was the Starbucks one with 500 miles.

I'm sure Lilah gave a good speech to the crowd, but I just kept looking at that Van Cleef and Arpels necklace she was wearing.

Lilah and Lewis were fab - love this free dance and happy to see them with a decisive win!

G/F - boring as $hit. other teams are pushing the envelope and thinking out of the box and they come in with quite possibly the most generic BLAH program of their career. Really generous score here.

G/P - kind of a WTF music choice but cool program. Glad they got a medal.

W/T - fun, love her dress.

Shibs - Loved that. Judges stingy with the scores.

Taschlers - lots of cool moves but the overall impression was a bit lackluster.

JVR/S - great program. Feels very undermarked.

O/P - love their unhinged over the top impulses.

F/A - he's so cute and I like his tubby silhouette. Good skating skills but that song/program is DREADFUL.

Y/M - disaster. Feels very juniorish.

This is the first time I'm seeing F/G's FD this season, I love it, they're exuding joy performing it. I absolutely love the opening combo lift. I would've liked more 500 miles, but I think they've made a great choice for the Olympic season.

I'm very happy for Gre/Par to give a great performance of their FD and get a medal after what happened China.

Watching that performance of Fix You just made me sad. The Shibs' victorious performance of that program winning US nationals in 2016 is one of my favorites, one I've returned to many times since. Everything that's happened with this comeback (or not happened), including what was revealed in that video, their sleep-walked performance here (absolutely no surge of excitement going into the twizzles/music change here or into the step sequence late in the program), coming out with such a tepid rehash of their most iconic program, has just tarnished the memories for me. I'm sure they can improve on some things in their next GP or Nationals but it's not happening for me.

Finally watched this and not much new to add, other than why have the Taschlers not fixed the character step? The headstand was bad but this just kneeling on the ice does nothing either. Get their bodies off the ice and use their edges. :mitchell:
