2025 Canadian Spring/Summer/Fall Competitions

Step out and hand down on the 3f+3t for Hetty, so off to a rather inauspicious start. And then two-footed the 3lo - will get at least < if not << on review.

And Lulu goes down on the back end of the 3z+3t. Skating to the Ella Fitzgerald version of "Puttin' on the Ritz: - and she falls on the 3lo. Rough day for her as well.

Some interview practice on camera for the leaders after each of the two groups so far. Something I can see on the big screen in the comfort of home without travelling "across the river" to attend in person :) There appears to be quite limited seating.

I have to go out in 20 minutes, but looks like I'll get to see Lia before I go! I was hoping I would.

Aleksa Volkova - down on her opening 3lo; and down on the 2a. Yikes. And only gets a 2s+2t for her combo. Double yikes.

Lia Chow is sporting not only Korean hair bling just above her temple/forehead, but she's also got a pale pink chiffon ribbon tied around her bun. Clean on all her jumps, presentation is fine - very junior on-point for Pink Martini's "Joli Garcon". She'll easily lead, though, because she's Skate Canada's next big hope with junior women.

Kaydee Kallay is skating to an instrumental version of "Mamma Mia" that sounds like it could be on the Bridgerton soundtrack. Just sayin'.

Lulu appears to be skating with a woman's body now so she may need some time to make that adjustment. All in all lots of great jumps.

Camila Volkova - okay 3t+3t, small 2a but done; step out on the 3lo. This dress is very busy and I'm not sure how the pale blue & peach large chiffon flower appliques on the spring green into pine green ombre with a beige & brown chiffon strip skirt goes with this music at all.

The side cutouts on Uxia's dress are completely unnecessary. Nice 3z+2t, good 3lo. Seriously, I'm convinced the side cutouts on this dress are just an excuse to add more crystals to a likely already expensive dress. She's struggling a bit on her step sequence.

Mégane Vallières reminds me of a young, dark-haired version of Bradie. Ooof, rough fall after she landed the 3lo - not sure the tech panel will not call it as a fall on the element once they review.

RD is up next - first team has a Carlos Santana medley and it's underwhelming. I suppose it works given the pattern dances the IDTC forced on the poor juniors this season.

Judging by a few of the names on the dance panel it seems SkateCanada is taking this competition fairly seriously. I am not nearly as informed as danafan and some of you as to whether this is normal or not but I am encouraged to see them doing this monitoring of so many up and comers.

Homick/Buelow - BSB medley. He has black, sheer, baggy jacket with two pockets & a zipper up the front that is VERY '90s boyband apart from being sheer, lol.

Proulx/Cincon-Debout - NKOTB medley - that takes me back to HS & my early college years when my BF was OBSESSED with them. I recognize far more of their songs than a country music fan from that era should, lol. OMG - his shirt is a NKOTB fan shirt. Her dress is a generic teal halter-style that has no connection to his shirt.

Kalaganis/Deveau - begin with "Ya'll Ready for This" into "I Got the Power" into "Space Jam" - total Jock Jams program. His shirt has referee stripes on the front & her dress is a white with red & blue trimmed cheerleader-esque concoction that I actually quite love. No impressions of their skating, I was just taking in the dress and look appreciatively while Shazaming the music, lol.

Veillon/Brandys - black and VERY shiny gold fabric on half of the torso for her that looks almost like a robot case; top left quarter of his baggy jacket is the same gold metallic. "Around the World" by Daft Punk and the costumes make too much sense, now into "Da Funk" - god love Shazam since I'm not at all familiar with Daft Punk's catalogue. Missed the last song in the Daft Punk medley. I'm just thoroughly underwhelmed by the junior RDs so far. If this is a sample of what we can expect on the senior level, this season is going to be soooooo underwhelming. None of this shit is going viral, IDTC.
