2025 Canadian Spring/Summer/Fall Competitions

Bondar - another good 3a! 3lo was okay; and down on the combo; music is Spanish, but missing the combo completely is going to bury him - the 3a may be enough to keep him in the 2nd group for the FS though.

Nice to see Lulu has increased the difficulty even though not the best skate, glad the juniors have longer to transition to their senior bodies, she will do fine in senior once she gets more consistent. That is where someone like Reece is at an advantage as she’s had her senior body for a few years. Sandrine seems to be adjust well too.
Some of these juniors will be ready for seniors. I’m not worried. Nice to see the speed is increasing and the artistry as well.
Cho is adorable but tiny jumps that she gets away with but likely will struggle once she grows, like her coaches previous skaters. But she should have a nice journey for the next few years with lots of success.

I haven't found Cho's jumping to be noticeably small, certainly nothing like Ruiter. She's not Osmond, by any means, but few are.

Although Osmond transitioned early to her senior body so meant a difficult junior time with consistency but was solid once a senior. I truly hope you are right about Cho, she is a lovely skater. I will enjoy her junior years.

I enjoyed the men, especially the top three. Anthony is very special I hope he is able to get his 3axel consistent in his long program. I know it’s pretty good now in his practices so now he needs to do it in competitions. Grayson is really maturing nicely, so is Edward. Hope these guys do well in the free skates so they can get some internationals. Nice to see some new faces as well.

ETA David Bondar I hope he does well in the long as he should do some internationals too. Just a silly error on the combo.

Jr Women FS is about to start - an earlier start to competition today (but also an earlier finish).
The first skater withdrew:
Aleksa Volkova CPA De Boucherville Inc. QC

As an aside, I presume there is a second rink in this facility with more seating for Canadians later this season :)

I remember Jugnauth from challenge and nationals last season. That was a great start to the event today. Most of her jumps looked very good quality.

They interviewed Woodley. She said she wasn't doing all her triples as she's coming off an injury. I think she skated pretty well today considering.

I don't remember Uxia having a flip or lutz last year during Novice Canadians; good for her if she has added those over the summer!

(I have a cat asleep on my lap and am typing one-handed on my phone, so ignore any typos :P We are cat sitting, and she is my best little buddy.)

Wow that was really impressive for Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes. I don't really watch novice events so I haven't seen her before. I looked up and saw she was third at novice Skate Canada Trophy last season (behind Camilla Volkova and Hannah Quinn who are also skating here).

She did a nice interview too.

Reese Rose is really struggling today :(
Unfortunately, she probably had a few friends and family in the audience today too - she trains at the Gloucester club on the Ottawa side of the river and they were promoting going to see her compete at this event on their Facebook page.

Blais looked so sad when she finished her program. It's hard to see them struggle especially after doing a really good short program. She's really sad now after seeing her ranking :(

Lia Cho's FS was choreographed by Jeff Buttle according to her interview.

Good interview with Karen Howard about what they will be doing tomorrow with the skaters as part of the development camp.

Cincon-Debout/Celestino started off with a very slow, female cover of "Day-O" and are now into the Beetlejuice soundtrack. This is actually a somewhat interesting program.

Ghost for Summer and Nick. Shmoopy program, but pretty good performance for their season debut. Should lead easily.

Homick/Buelow are doing a Ghost FD. Talk about boring & underwhelming. That soundtrack has some good pieces that will build to a great ending, see ChanHowe's FS, but this just petered out at the end.

Anderson/Dawson - "I Will Leave A Light On" - I really hate modern lyrical, but there is something about this team that draws you in & makes you pay attention in spite of the questionable music choice. There are points where they're still reaching for each other & their tracking isn't quite up to par, but they have more potential than any recent Canadian junior team, IMO.
