2025-26 U.S. Ice Dance News, Updates & Discussion - Backstreet Boys & Spice Girls

CT is proving to be a powerhouse ice dance training facility (at least for juniors with A/V and V/L). Will wait to see how their teams manage the transition to seniors and how successful their teams are in seniors. Right now, A/V is a match made in ice dance heaven.

Novi, I feel, has so many teams that I hope it has the staffing to coach and develop all of them.

Broadmoor from the parents' grapevine: If my kid trains there, will they marry off my kid to some Russian skater? LOL

I'm glad the word is getting out!
There are also coaches who won't let their kids try out with any of the kids in that school, no matter how good the Broadmoor kid is, unless the Broadmoor kid decides to change training school (unlikely because they hold their students so tight). As one coach said, "I cannot in good conscience send my student to that school." So yes, the word is getting out.

That is really good to hear that other coaches are choosing to protect the kids - not just our own US kids but also the Russian guys that Dostatni is importing.

It's clear from the info that we have about Desyatov's family circumstances that he was in a vulnerable position where he took what he thought was the best chance he had at avoiding the Russian draft & improving his situation (not excusing what he did to Solene Mazingue in any way). It makes me worry that the other guys she's imported are in equally difficult circumstances - thankfully that doesn't appear to be the situation with Artem Markelov, whose parents are still alive & were able to travel to Almaty for DTM this past fall, but that doesn't mean that any other guys are coming from stable, prosperous Russian families.

And the less said about the gross pressure put on the American girls' families to marry them off to their Russian partners... Yuck.

Once again, what a terrible response to the yelling video: "Oh it was a one time thing out of frustration! I apologized! See? We get along!" (Cue Maia with the most scripted PR answer an athlete could provide).

While I'm glad they brought it up, CBS also sugarcoated it as much as they could: not airing the specific language used or mentioning it was a 10 minute one-sided tirade, NOT the incident of mutual frustration that CBS and the Shibs tried to paint it as.

And just to round out the disciplines - here's the Selection Pool for the Olympics, Worlds, 4CCs and Jr Worlds -

I knew Zingas/Kolesnik's total would be strong, but I didn't expect it to be that significantly higher than Carreira/Ponomarenko's. They seemed like such a lock for US 2, with a significant lead, and the rest of the seniors fighting for the third spot.

It's because they made the GPF and their score there was added with a factor of 3.
