Speaking for myself, I hope Stephen doesn't get in his head about being so close to securing Canada a second spot. I hope he skates for himself and just enjoys skating for the fourth time on Olympic ice after a long and hard fought journey. Just have fun, Stephen, you've earned it.

Spots for Worlds are determined at Worlds....so the only pressure here is for him to skate his best and see where he finishes after his Free Program!

One point away from the bronze. I never expected this and am very happy for him. SC should definitely send him to Worlds as maybe he can earn Canada a second man for the next season! ?

SC definitely needs to send him to Worlds! If we didn't insert the narrative that "Gogo is only jumps, but not as artistic as so-and-so", Gogo could have have a couple extra politically-pushed PCS points to get that bronze! Give Gogo more political points along with his very solid jumps! That second axel was fantastic!

They haven't named the team yet but why on earth would they have named Roman?

Oh, and there’s more. Gogolev’s fifth-place finish in Milan was the highest for a Canadian man since Patrick Chan’s silver medal in Sochi in 2014. That’s 12 long years ago, so indeed, this was a watershed moment for men’s skating in Canada.

It’s the kind of thing that allows skating fans in this country to dream of a return to the time when competitors wearing the red maple leaf would challenge for the highest men’s titles in the sport. And it isn’t difficult to see Gogolev earning a top-10 spot at next month’s World Championships in Prague, which would open up the door for a provisional second spot for 2027 Worlds in Tampere, Finland.
