2025–26 Canadian Men: News and Updates

I confess that music selection did hit me negatively initially but I'm not going to write off Keegan or the enjoyment I get from his skating just for that. Since Keegan has dual citizenship I think he has a right to be proud of both countries and does not bear responsibility for everything going on right now.
He's looking to represent Canada at the Olympics. He can be proud of both countries the rest of the time, it doesn't have to go in his music. If he doesn't understand the way most Canadians feel about what's been happening, then he's not very in touch with the country he's representing. That's a problem for me, personally. YMMV

Canadian Press sports journalist Dan Rainbird's interview with Stephen Gogolev: Finally healthy, Canada's Stephen Gogolev finds 'new energy and love' for skating
Gogolev spent the last several years struggling just to stay on competitive ice, nowhere near the international podiums he had seemed destined. When his season was cut short for a second consecutive year in December, he wasn't sure he would return.

"I definitely had those thoughts," said Gogolev, now 20. "It was really frustrating ... I wasn't really sure whether these issues were going to keep continuing.

"It was more of a thing that, I was going to give it one last try … it was definitely harder to make that decision to keep skating."

It's a decision he doesn't regret.

Gogolev is finally pain-free, and it's showing. He topped the Nebelhorn Trophy podium on the Challenger Series in Oberstdorf, Germany, on Sept. 26 to capture his first senior gold medal.

Keegan Messing is on the international assignments page for the Ice challenge in Austria. This should give him a bye through sectionals but he'll still have to do the Skate Canada Challenge to qualify for nationals based on the dates.

Oh and Grayson Long is also entered!

Keegan's music choice is seriously questionable. Under normal circumstances, it would be a weird choice but with everything going on between Canada and the USA, it's extremely tone deaf. It almost makes me want to suggest he should skate for the USA. And his technical content isn't encouraging. It seems like this comeback wasn't really thought through. I hope Roman, Steven or Wesley take the spot

100%. It's never too late to go back to November Rain.

Still not a fan of the music choice, however it's 1000% better than if he used "Proud to be an American", like Belbin did for an exhibition number after becoming a US citizen. That one still sticks with me.

Keegan skated in one small event as his first time back on competitive ice early in the season. I know there are a lot of people here who were already less than thrilled with his comeback and now they are pissed about his music choice, but I really don't think the stuff he showed technically is an indication of how this comeback will go. Don't know why quite a few people seem to think it is.

Sure Tony, but we have good reason to be annoyed about his music choice. Skating for Canada to a repeated refrain of R.O.C.K in the USA is at best tone deaf, given the tariffs and 51st state rhetoric. If he's skating for Canada he at least has to appear to be supportive of Canada, no matter how American he is.

And we don’t have to have a good reason to like or dislike skating music. Whether it’s rational or irrational (and please), know your audience.

Did you read what I said?

I don't think you did, unless you're now here arguing that somehow the music choice has some kind of effect on his technical level of skating. Once again:

Calm down Tony. Of course I read it all, and I agree with you re the technical level. I was just responding to your comment re people being pissed off with his music choice.

I'm clarifying what I said, as you quoted me. Why are you telling me I need to calm down?

And for the record, since you quoted me, I never once suggested people were wrong to be pissed about his music choices. I acknowledged that as being something people didn't like, in fact!

I said, once again, that I don't think his technical level at a small event in Dallas was indicative of whether the comeback will be successful or not.
