And for anyone interested, the "evillle women" is wearing a fur(?) jacket today and was standing up waving her US flag as Amber finished skating.

I'm happy to see Amber as the winner, but I'm really cautious as the season continues because she flat-out knows and has stated she's gotten gift calls in the short, and the free skate really is no different story. As always with this dumb scoring sport, a tough panel will change her fate big-time if she were to replicate skates like she's had throughout the GP.

But for now let's ignore that :p

and this gesture from the three Japanese women alone is why I hope the Russians are never let back into skating again. This camaraderie and good competition and support between the competitors is outstanding.
I was also appreciating the beautiful basic skating, the soft knees, the held turns and edges, the jump landings that had flow out of them, and the mature presentation—aspects of skating that were not valued enough last quad.

What a great interview with Amber. She's so respectful to all her current competitors and skaters from the past. She's still having a hard time digesting that she is the GPF champion. "It's me?" Yes, Amber, indeed it is indeed YOU. I'm SO happy for her.

I thought Chiba was the most gifted in terms of calls (and also PCS), and Matsuike the harshest.

I’m shocked for the calls for Sakamoto but not others. Maybe the panel wants to make things interesting.

I do think Glenn would have won even with appropriate calls throughout. The Japanese could’ve been in any order depending on the calls. It’s all so tight in terms of both base value and PCS.

This very much. What I really resent the whole Eteri school for (aside from the obvious) is that they promoted this frantic "choreography" that serves mostly to mask a lack of skating skills and gives a false impression of skill.

PS: (not to you but about the comment you quoted) the Russians weren't banned for poor sportsmanship, and it's unduly harsh to accuse most of the athletes of that. Feel free to hate on the loutish fans who shouted "Ros-si-ya" during other people's skates all you want, though.

It’s not just the fans but the nasty commentary from Russian coaches and officials about others’ skating. They’re fat and lazy and whatnot. I’m really hoping they’re nowhere to be seen in Milan.
And that too, certainly. I mean, they're often horrible about their own skaters so what can you expect...
I love the brass neck of Tarasova calling other people fat, though, I must admit.

Again, questionable calling by this panel but overall the result feels fair.

The skate of the day for me was Wakaba, as is often the case. She takes my breath away and I hope a world medal is in her future.

Mone's skating reminds me of 1994 Michelle Kwan.

I’m still re-watching the ladies free program I’m wondering…. do you think Kaori chose Chicago because worlds are in the USA granted Boston I know, but this will play better to an American audience.
