2023 Skate America in Allen, Texas

I may have to cancel going. I had planned to drive there on Thursday (about an 8-hour drive from my home) but am now scheduled for a kidney transplant evaluation on that day at a hospital two hours from my home. I'm supposed to bring somebody with me; otherwise, I would leave from there to drive to Allen. My options are to get up very early on Friday and drive down or not go. It may be better for me if I don't go, rather than making a long drive on Friday to get there before the first event.

My sister lives there and one of the local culture sites she follows on Facebook posted about it. She hasn’t mentioned anything else.

When we did our holiday shows I thought it was warm under those lights haha. I asked my husband and he said for our ice shows at least he was warm enough in just a jacket. I've never been there for hockey to compare.

I was there for the Pairs sectional a few years ago and don’t remember freezing. Of course I fully expect that my seat will be under an air vent as always seems to be the case.

The event Center came to Allen in 2009, under the direction of former Economic Development Director Robert Winningham. Following the event center’s arrival, the city saw two professional sports tenants: the Allen Americans ECHL team and the Dallas Side Kicks indoor soccer team, as well as family events like Disney on Ice, trade days, religious events, concerts, graduations, and now Skate America, an international skating competition that hosts former and future Olympic competitors from across the globe.

Skate America, slated to run from Oct. 20-23 at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, was started by the U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States. While the Credit Union of Texas Event Center held some events from US Figure Skating, this will be the first year that Skate America will occur in Allen, according to Bill Herman, General Manager for the Credit Union of Texas Event Center. “We anticipate this to be a really great event that will put the CUTX event center and the city of Allen on the national stage,” Herman said. “We anticipate there to be some beauty shots around the city highlighting that they're in Allen, Texas. That opportunity doesn't come along very often for cities of 110,000 people. We're really looking forward to it. This is a long time in the making, and we're a week away from it.”
Herman said that the event center served as a catalyst for developing the rest of the Villages of Allen shopping area.

Osipova/Epstein withdrew from their planned Challenger events (they were on the initial lists for Lombardia, Nebelhorn & ACI) so I assume it's an injury issue? They have not posted anything on their social media, AFAIK.
