Kaori is 100% hot, because she's the only woman in skating I can think of who even approaches a butch/tomboy/queer-girl aesthetic, like she's still not that close, because compulsory figure skating hyperfemininity, but you can at least imagine what it'd look like. It's the cute, goofy, jock energy.

Thanks for saying this. It has bugged me for a number of years, but I just haven't found a polite way to articulate it. Skaters whom heterosexual women think are attractive or whom gay men think would make a good gay icon, really don't count for the purposes of this thread.

Huh? Please. Heterosexual women are far more comfortable with recognizing another woman is hot or oozes porny than heterosexual men are with recognizing another man is all that and yet no one takes issue with any straight men voting in the PSOTY poll or expressing an opinion.

Hell, I don't see anything remotely "porny" in Lolo and yet she's leading this poll. None of the programs she's had over the years have been remotely "hot", IMO, yet the poll results seem to indicate she's going to win. To each her/his own, I suppose, but there's really no accounting for anyone else's taste.

Excuse the hell out of all the heterosexual women and gay men who have voted in this poll over the years. It was never spelled out to us that this was something we were not supposed to participate in. The original purpose of the poll was to give female skaters an even playing field for our silly little FSU honor since the PSOTY winners have always been men.

No, the problem lies in you asserting ownership and voting rights in any of these polls are limited to a certain subset of posters - which has never been the case.

How can I possibly have any control over who votes in these polls? I am not the creator of the poll nor a moderator. I am simply suggesting, as a queer woman, that queer female desire is often subject to erasure or to appropriation, and that that is what I experience in this poll. And, of course, this is a poll for heterosexual men also.

And, for the record, it is only because I have a healthy sense of self-worth that I feel comfortable making my perspective known in this thread. It is not difficult to anticipate the resistance it will incur, but that is something with which I have a life's worth of experience.

Not to mention that although there’s overlap, the gay guys here and the straight women often differ on who the porny guys are, and not because of the sexual orientation of the guys we like.

No-one is closing any poll to any participant. It’s legitimate to point out that there’s a lot of difference in whom people pick and some is grounded in who the pickers are. (I love Kaori but don’t find her porny and am fascinated to hear why she is.) If lesbians here want to make a point about being a minority with a different stake in a dumb internet poll, who does that hurt?

People can make the point without saying things like "is there a space" blah blah or what they suspect or don't suspect. Obviously one person wasn't being too serious. Can't say the other wasn't either.

Anyway, my vote stays I invite lesbians to vote for who they believe the porniest man is. As we all know, it is an age old beef, and I'd love to tell them they're wrong about everything.

Really? Sounds so extremely excluding when I think the culture of our society these days is to be more including.

if this thought was to be voted on by the city Council of my city, it would be voted down 100% lol
