I haven't watched yet, but I'm shocked at the result given how dominant Teams Elite was the rest of the season and how Skyliners/Elite were consistently beating Fintastic's scores. IIRC at least one of the two also beat Les Supremes. For both US teams these scores are well below their SBs. Either the judges here hated them or they skated very poorly.
Or they received the scores they deserved.....

Zagreb has hosted many successful big international Synchro comps - including ones with their own livestreams. They've also held worlds multiple times before with no issues. I have no reason to believe this year will be any different.

In the US at least it will be on Peacock, but I think they use the ISU feed?

If it is like last year, SBS in Australia showed the full event and you rewatch later. It is an easy event to watch because each session only lasts about 4 hours. Unlike Worlds where I just don't have the time to watch everything.

Looking forward to it.

I had to really dig around to find them and finally found the Free Skate tile by scrolling through the Live & Upcoming events and then the Short Program tile in the "You May Like" section of the Free Skate page once I added it to My Stuff. Peacock is NOT making it easy, lol.

A new GSD thread for 2024 Synchro Worlds competition/live play-by-play has been created - link:

ETA link to this online resource - "Jura Synchro is a specialised online media company. Launched at the beginning of 2016, it is devoted to synchronised skating news worldwide through the publication of journalistic articles, photos, and video reports. It is the first worldwide media dedicated exclusively to this team sport practiced on ice."

Just watched the short, why oh why can't they find someone who can film a synchro competition. Close ups during elements is just nuts. I don't know how you expect to grow the popularity of this discipline if this is whole you are going to film these competitions over and over again. :( I want to see the formations, the intersections, the spacing. Not a close up of 1/8 of the team.

Would you believe I actually looked in the K&C forum for a thread before coming here

That would have been my first instinct too had I not seen it right after it was opened up this morning. :)

And now I see it's not there, it's here, but not HERE
We don't usually put Synchro threads in the Kiss'n Cry forum, and I wasn't sure whether that section had opened to everyone now that the season is over, so I created the thread in the news section. Sorry for the confusion @marbri.

No worries at all, I wasn't watching live either. Now I know the custom and will remember next year :)

Caught up with the event last night. Fortunately SBS here in Australia has been showing everything from ISU this year. And the best thing is when you watch the On Demand service they take out all the ice resurfaces. So it is only about 2 and half hours to watch. Unfortunately I was a bit tired watching so I had trouble keeping my eyes open.

Not a formal synchro judge here but have judged a bit of it. It is so much better these days than the old "precision" skating. The quality of skating has really developed and I think IJS has been the best thing to happen to the discipline because of the definition of the elements and the need for clear formations. And the teams have risen to the challenge required.

So my random thoughts without having taken any notes.

Very proud of our Australian team. They have had massive challenges even getting to the event as they have no home rink in Sydney and have had to travel around the city to the other rinks to train. And if you have even been Sydney that is no mean feat because it literally can sometimes take a couple of hours to get anywhere.

Haydenettes really stood out for me. I think towards the end of that program was one of the best examples of element placement with the massive artistic circle building with the music and then the intersection that fitted perfectly. It was just WOW. Without sitting down and really analysing it was the best for me.

The Finnish teams were fantastic as always. Different styles of program but their skating skills and formations are excellent.

Les Supremes were great but I got more into the Haydenettes and the Fins

I think I enjoyed Berlin 1 more than any other team. Who doesn't love a bit of Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels? May not have been perfect but they had lots of sass and attitude. Loved their No Hold Element.

Best costumes - Ice on Fire. Having those different coloured dresses really created an interesting palette on the ice.

Overall really enjoyed it and will catch up on the Freeskating tonight.

I am currently watching the FS and have watched the first three groups.

Holy moly I loved the Netherlands team Team United. That was the best program out so far. The program had fantastic interpretation to the music, got the crowd involved and was exciting. Technically they had some fantastic unison on quite a few of the elements, particularly the Pair death spiral element. The Travelling Element really covered the ice and the final lift that was right in the judges faces was so cool. I am surprised they didn't place higher.

The rest of the programs whilst good were a bit meh for me. However I will give props to the Japanese team for their costumes.

Long article from USFS:

Carla DeGirolamo and LeeAnn Shoker Leave Lasting Impact on Miami and U.S. Synchronized Skating
Carla DeGirolamo and LeeAnn Shoker spent a combined four decades coaching the Miami University synchronized skating program in Oxford, Ohio, taking the program to heights unmatched by any other collegiate synchronized skating program.

(Apr 17)

Many thankful comments from Miami alumnae are in the companion video from USFS:
"A Lasting Legacy - Miami Bids Farewell to Legendary Coaches Carla DeGirolamo and Lee Ann Shocker" (3:03)
