I havent been watching figure skating, barely even following much of it since SkAm. I know about zero of whats happening. I am working, You clearly havent stopped watching Days Of Our Lives or The Price is Right since last August. Thats fine hun I watch Below Deck and RHONY BUT Get out, gets some air..O-M-GGGGG

Also I havent said anything is horrible, you exaggerating goat. I said why not postpone until a bit clearer of a pasture.

There may be more positive cases from World Arena rinks. Training mates in the same rink are close contacts. For the safety and health of other participants, skaters and coaches from the World arena probably should withdraw from Nationals, even if they test negative on arrival as there is a 5-day incubation period when a test may be negative.

To be fair, we don’t have any idea how many of the other World Arena skaters skate on sessions with her. Are they required to be masked the entire time? At the school my kids go to, not even the entire class is quarantined when there is a positive case In the room (and they follow CDC guidelines). I am sure US Figure Skating is making sure everything is as safe as possible as they don’t want an outbreak at Nationals! Also, people who arrived Sunday and Monday have to take another PCR test today, and people that arrived yesterday have to take another one tomorrow to hopefully catch anyone who might have been in the incubation period when they arrived in Vegas.
I will say, it seems like the competition is going above and beyond CDC guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible. I am excited to see the competition!

I believe I read that if you flew, you are moved to another hotel (already predetermined and quarantined for 10 days before going home). I believe if you drove and weren’t sick, you could drive back home to quarantine. I figured most if not all would get a PCR test before leaving, just to make sure, I know I would have! I feel badly for Paige but I’m glad she seems to be feeling ok and hopefully this will be the first and only positive of the competition (the other withdraws so far have been because of contact).
 
If she flew, whose responsibility is it to informs the airline that they had a person with covid on board so they can contact the other passengers to take proper steps? Ryderg? The USFSA?

At least in PA, if you were in contact with a person that tested positive, you need to quatentine for at least 7 days. After 7 days, you can stop with a negative test. I thought that was true everywhere.

Here in TX, this is how it works. If you are considered a close contact you quarantine for 7 days from Last day of exposure and if you get a negative test, you can end quarantine but if no test it’s 10 days I think. However, to be considered a close contact it’s 48 hours from the beginning of symptoms or testing positive if asymptomatic. If she was asymptomatic, and her positive test came Tuesday, there’s a good chance no one from World Arena would be Considered a close contact. I’m not sure how flights work, do you get notified? I haven’t flown since Nationals last year.

I assume you contact the airline and then they reach out to fellow passengers.

Hope the other passengers have the covid app on their phone.
 
The airline will contact you. They don't tell you where on the plane the person was, but assuming everyone was masked etc the risk is very low.
I know several people who have been notified, but so far none of them have gone on to test positive. Since they were traveling for work, they then informed their employers and went into quarantine. (yes, there are still jobs that are requiring travel, basically in 'essential' industries or 'crisis management'. One friend deals with cleaning up 'ransomwear' messes for example)
 
I was notified that someone in my class (yes, there are classes that have to at least attempt to be in-person due to their nature) tested positive and regardless if they were on the other side of the room, the contact tracing team made everyone stay off campus and it was highly suggested to sit home for the full 14 excessive days. Makes for an interesting situation when other classes one may be taking are attempting to stay in-person only and then have to adjust for this.

Miami is a major flight attendant home base and I know quite a few of them- some have been working non-stop throughout all of this and have never tested positive. Because someone may know one person that thinks that it was a flight that made them get CV doesn't mean that it suddenly shoots the risk way up. The science that has been often shared suggests otherwise.

"Close contact is defined by CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated."

Assuming Paige Rydberg arrived and her sample was collected on the 11th, the skaters at World Arena had intense and busy pre-nationals training sections on the 9th and 10th and cumulatively they had spent 15min within 6 ft of Paige during those two days, there's a good chance someone or even many from the World Arena would be considered a close contact/s: Tom Z, Bradie Tennell, Pooja Kalyan, Vincent Zhou, and likely more after they review security video footage at the rink. To prevent Nationals become a super spreader event, USFS has to do something and err on the safe side.

Except there is virtually no way to actually enforce this.

Exactly how do YOU know who was on the ice together, for how long, etc, at World Arena? I think the good old adage of "mind your own business" is applicable here.

I have no idea what the schedules for any of these skaters is but considering that the 9th and 10th were a weekend, it could be that fewer of them skated. I trust US Figure Skating and all of the other people involved in putting on the event to do everything they can to make it safe. I’m sure They don’t want it to become a super spreader event either.
