2020 Grand Prix series thread

Certainly make sure the batteries are charged in your pager, dear.

Additionally,I believe proper 'netiquette' dictates usage of all capital letters can be interpreted as shouting.

Happy Birthday! Have a day drink on me! :nopryde:

Hahahahha. Thank you everybody. I’m usually in Spain for my birthday but it was also nice to stay home this time and do the drinking at home (during a Golden Girls marathon).

Did someone mention that ISU was posting Grand Prix assignments today. Today is Thursday right? I’m assuming it is…

I have received absolutely no faxes today.....

I don't think that the USFS has made their picks, yet. I believe that the results of the ISP Points Challenge will determine GP and other international assignments, if any.

All the skaters in the ISP have an opportunity to send in a video on a certain date and get a score, then they post the videos- there are 2 chances- first opportunity videos and scores for Seniors will be on USFS Fans site on Sep 22 and 2nd is Oct 6th. I would think though, that it shouldn't be a difficult choice to at least name the top 5 from Nationals to Skate America in all disciplines (provided they want to attend), and leave the rest TBD for now.

It's announced just a while ago by USFS and related parties. This is a virtual competition for US figure skaters. The best scored senior skaters will get a ticket to the US Championships on January 2021. And the prize money is pretty good.

But they can’t do the skate America or Grand Prix selections until this is completed?

Maxim Trankov is quoted in this article that T/M plan to compete at Skate America after they return from Russia next month:
"Tarasova / Morozov will start at the stages of the Russian Cup in Syzran (September 18-22) and Moscow (October 10-13)." Skate America is Oct. 23-25.

Here's a preview of them at Skate America.

Moscow October 10-13 and Skate America October 23-25, if they are required a 14 day quarantine after returning to the US how they will be able to compete at the GP??? less than 10 days between both events

Recently, CDC dropped the quarantine recommendation for the incoming travelers to US. Now it is a local government who decides the quarantine rules.

Unless something changes, and I doubt it considering current US politics, there is no country-wide quarantine requirement. There was a CDC recommendation, but that’s been removed. Certain states have requiremets/restrictions, but not Florida (Max didn’t have to when he flew in to work with them.) Nevada also has no restrictions. I assume they will be tested at least once in all of this.

I’m not saying any of this is the smartest or safest. Things could change, but at this moment, there’s nothing in terms of quarantine requirements to restrict them with this plan.

If I recall correctly, T&M got out of having to formally quarantine when they flew back to Russia during the height of the closures so maybe Russia would just exempt them? I could be misremembering that, and it may have just been V&T that got out of having to formally quarantine.

One of them (T/M) said in an interview that they had to quarantine when they went back in March, and then right when that ended, the general quarantine for everyone started. They ended up with double quarantine.

From what I’ve gathered right now, returning to Russia, there is no quarantine, but a test for the crud is required.

Must have been V&T then? (I actually deleted that post above because I realized the dates of the skating events were reversed from how I originally interpreted them).

Cross-posting from #TTW to the backwaters of GSD:
Will NHK be an international event this year? Or even happen?

www.kayak.com/travel-restrictions#japan

The restrictions, if still in place then, would rule out skaters who had been in, among other nearby countries, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines, and Russia within the previous 14 days.
And there's Cup of China:

www.kayak.com/travel-restrictions#china

China has restricted the entry of all foreign nationals except Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan passport holders.

What will happen to these events if these countries don't lift their travel restrictions?

Isn't the whole point that each event will have skaters who train within that country? How are travel restrictions relevant in that context? T/M's situation is pretty unusual and it's sort of interesting that they're making competing in both countries work but it's not the norm.

The French Grand Prix will, I believe, have skaters who train in other EU countries and Switzerland.

I don't think that there are any foreign skaters training in Japan. I can't think of any Grand Prix level skaters who train in China except for possibly Yi Christy Yeung. That being so, none of the events at either competition will qualify for ranking points and maybe even for status as an ISU event. So, will the competitions even go forward?

It might also be difficult for SA, SC, and COR to meet the requirements for ranking points in some events, but there should be enough to put together at least two or three events that do at each of those competitions.
