A soundtrack from a pornographic film has absolutely no place in our sport. I’m distressed so many don’t even bat an eyelash at the vulgar implications this sets.

I bet you are horrified each time someone skates to "Roxanne", Roxanne being a hooker. An ice dance team even won the Olympic gold with this theme, how the heck did you survive ? It must have been painful.

SP: Kill Bill

Terrific FS choice.

I love the SP choice, don't recall anyone ever skating to 'Kill Bill' before.

Though I do wonder if Hongo will understand that the film/story is a satire in certain respects. She probably hasn't watched the film. I actually couldn't get through the whole thing, but did think the wedding scene was beyond brilliant, and enjoyed the martial arts scenes I fast-forwarded to.

But the name of the music is evocative in itself, perhaps.

:ROFLMAO:. Still, to be more precise, V/M's program was more about Satine and Christian, not about Roxanne. And Satine was a show star and a courtesan, not a simple "hooker".

Rika Hongo's Kill Bill SP is the music she skated last season, listed in her ISU bio as "Battle Without Honor Or Humanity" by Tomoyasu Hotei.

From the U.S. Ladies thread re. Courtney Hicks:
(eta: I've already added this info to the program music spreadsheet)... she had her FS to "Seven Nation Army" choreographed by Karen Kwan back in April:
The 2nd photo has a clip from the beginning: https://www.instagram.com/p/BwIRGm_pgN3/
Footwork clip filmed when she was in Wichita for a show: https://www.instagram.com/p/BxstFy7j3e8/

Jordan Moeller recently finished choreographing her SP to "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap (clip from when they started the process in April): https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw5iAS7gvT2/

Sotskova did a good job with 'Black magic woman' back in the day (at a way younger age) so I have no doubts about her doing 50SoF.
Go girl!

Seriously bossman or are you just jonesing for her costume? Polina is such a smart girl!!

^^ @TanithandBenFan, something is wrong with your link. Can you fix?

Nevermind. Here's the correct link:

So Renee Roca comes back to revamp this successful program from H&B's 2014-15 season.

Fifty Shades + Anybody = :wall:

Not in this instance:

Although the official video by The Weeknd, is rather tacky:

GHOST IN THE SHELL!!! As a huge Scarlett Johansson fan, I’m SO down for this!

Fifty Shades + Anybody = :wall:

The storyline is crap, but the soundtracks to all three movies are good. Not to mention, “I put a spell on you” is from the 50 Shades soundtrack and has been used to death in the skating world, so it’s not an uncommon choice for music. I trust Maria’s version will be tasteful and enjoyable.

It’s not old rock and roll? What miracle is this?

I am talking about the song, which is about a hooker, not about a program in particular. It was inspired to Sting by the hookers working close to a crappy hotel he and his band were staying at in Nashville in the 70s. Countless skaters have used Roxanne way before V/M. BTW the fact that a courtesan only sleeps with upper-class men doesn't make her less of a prostitute ;)

@cholla Understood. I know all about the song . I just clarified about V/M's FD.

As for courtesans, yes, they are prostitutes, but they are also more than that (as in, their "job description" includes more than just sleeping with their "patrons" + if a courtesan has a patron, she may not sleep with other men, unless she and her patron have agreed otherwise - the young women of today who allow their rich lovers to provide for them financially, accept expensive gifts from them etc., could be called courtesans just as well).

Thanks for clarifying something I wasn't talking about
Well, you mentioned an "ice dance team" who had won Olympic gold with the Roxanne theme. It must have been V/M you were talking about, no ? But, okay, okay, I got it. I apologize for my simple comment, and can we finally move on?

FS: "Pilgrims on a Long Journey" by Coeur de pirate (from Child of Light album)

Interesting that this random videogame track has now made it into two top level FS programs. V&M 2017 FD being the other one.

I still remember that Butterfly Programme Scalli did with partner and Camerlengo choreographed right? Still waiting to be grabbed by programme like that in ice dance.

The Yently FD! I thought I was the only person who loved that FD. The choreography and connecting movements were excellent. Easily F&S's best FD, imo.

Coeur de Pirate is fairly popular and well-known in Quebec (she does indie-pop stuff, not just instrumental), so it's really random that Marie-France would know the music. I knew her work (although not that album so much) before V/M used it. And then DM/G likely know it from V/M's program.

“I put a spell on you” is from the 50 Shades soundtrack

True, a version of it is on the Fifty Shades soundtrack, and thanks for pointing that out as well. Although, we all know that's not where the song originated. Everybody and their brother have covered this song, with the most memorable and famous rendition hailing from Nina Simone (it was even the title of her autobiography :p). Annie Lennox covered it for Fifty Shades... But maybe most of us aren't really familiar with the original origination. :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kGPhpvqtOc  Camp to the nth degree and not very good camp either  But the lyrics and overall concept are from hard truth & complex emotions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua2k52n_Bvw Nina Simone Blessed! Soulful and definitive! :encore: chills up-and-down spine terrific :inavoid:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TrSMaOZm3Y Annie Lennox :encore: Boss Lady!

So yep @Mad for Skating, soundtracks for Fifty Shades movies are better than the movies

Here's more on the history of I Put A Spell on You covers:
