All it shows me is that there was some batshit crazy GOE given out in the short program last year.

I think our ladies definitely have potential. They need experience, of course. Skate Canada is doing the smart thing by focusing on the future. We will go down to our spot but that's OK. Kaiya will join the senior ranks next year but won't be eligible for the senior events until 2021-2022.

Gabby is presumably off the National Team, but this might not be a bad thing, less competitions might give her more time to heal.

Kaiya and Madeline are both going to the Bavarian Open, per the official entry list.

That's great. I'm happy that Kaiya got a spot at JW. She's a spit fire.

I don't think that can be presumed at all. Low nationals placement just means she's not one of the automatic qualifiers.

It will be interesting to see what Skate Canada does with the national team, though. There were only three ladies this year (would have been four but for Alaine retiring). The podium gets you three, and if they keep Gabrielle and Aurora, that's five; then there's also Veronik, Alicia, etc.

The National Team was top 5 at one point, but that has been modified by this doc that was in effect for 19.20 season.
It is now top 3 plus GP assigned entries, plus the ability to add new couplings

I said I was not going to comment again on Gabby and here I am breaking my own rule. It seems to me that should Gabby continue, she should start out with senior B's with little pressure, expectations and attention. Just ease in and get used to competing again, do as many as she can - summer stuff - whatever. Tracy mentioned she has pulled out of far more competitions than she has skated in for the last two years. I just am not sure how many more skates like this past weekend a soul can take without doing life long damage.

I feel so bad for Gabby. It looked like the world was her oyster. But she hasn't been able to get healthy again. I seriously wonder if she should take next season off to fully recover. She needs to do what's best for her and not think about anything else.

Just for the record, Tracy was wrong there (though the general point that she's been consistently hampered is of course correct). She withdrew from her two Grand Prix events after the 2018 US Classic, then had three competitions in the second half of the season; this year she swapped out Challenger events, did one of her two Grand Prix assignments, and nationals.

Skaters aren't machines. What may come naturally one day, could be lost the next.

The season at the worst of times must feel like a runaway train.

Daleman at her best, was top three in the world. Since then, the technical level of ladies skating has skyrocketed. I'm sure Gabby isn't the only one at the moment feeling the pressure to do well and meet expectations.

Moving forward, here's hoping she and her team have the intelligence to do what is best for her.

Well, I do not mean to imply that Gabby has pulled out without good reason. Anyway - I hope the choices are made on what is best for Gabby, as coppertop said, and not because of her scoring potential for Canada.

Pineault really could/should have been on the national team this year as she had a grand prix assignment (albeit a late substitute). Daleman could still be picked for a grand prix spot assuming her SB score stays in the top 75, and named to the national team (assuming criteria is the same).
I hope the 4CC and world team skaters will put up new SB scores to improve their chances of getting a GP next season.

Interesting that Schizas is competing junior. Seems like she probably won’t be sent anywhere to get senior minimums unfortunately, but I am glad she is getting another chance to compete internationally.

Nice to see that Skate Canada is sending such a big novice team.

What an adorable girl. I thought she had one of the best interviews of the week. I will remember her now for her great attitude, pleasing personality and love of dogs. Enjoy the little things in life - or something like that she said - super counsel.

She did withdraw from 3 summer/fall competitions in 2019.20 ( Minto, NY Summer and Autumn Classic) before doing Finlandia, Skate Canada and Canadians.

She went into Skate Canada and Finlandia with very little training. I believe she was not cleared from concussion protocol until mid September and competed Oct 11 and Oct 26.
She went into Canadians with 4 weeks of training after her ligament injuries and wd from China

Remarkable that she has competed as she has, but the ability to regain form can't be speeded up and nothing replaces competition. Hard hard lessons.

She will be back.

My best hopes are that our one entry for Montreal Worlds has both an extraordinary competition and also gets the home worlds boost to finish in top 10 to have two entries in the next worlds/olympic qualifier.

The scenario where their combined placements add up to 28 via something like 13+15 is probably more realistic.

Canada gets to send 2 ladies to Worlds this year. It's men where we only have one spot.

I'll be interested to see what Skate Canada does with the ladies' section of the national team next season. Emily, Alison and Madeline are guaranteed spots under the current rules. None of this year's three members thus far qualify under the rules; I can't imagine they'll leave Gabrielle and Aurora off, but I don't know that there's much of an argument to keep Veronik, as much as I like her and enjoy having her skating.

Also, the handling of the Grand Prix host spots will be really complicated for next season, especially as at this point those are probably the only spots the Canadian ladies will get (though the fed was able to wangle Veronik a place at SkAm somehow this season, so maybe not).

That's why it's critical for Schumacher and Bausback to improve their season best scores at 4CC and/or Worlds. Last year Mallet was 57th and she got a non host pick, and currently Bausback and Schumacher are 55th and 58th. Same with Pineault who is currently 73rd. I think if they stay in the 50s they have a decent chance of getting a non host pick, especially if Skate Canada politics for them. Schizas doesn't have a season best score and hopefully she will get a chance to earn one at jr worlds because if she skates to potential she could be up there.

It will be interesting to see if Schizas can go directly to the senior grand prix next season, having never done the JGP (and next year I believe the required jump is the lutz and she doesn't have the triple lutz yet). I was thinking about it and I know that Mallet did her first senior grand prix without any JGP experience either, but it is an unusual path for sure. It could depend on Canada's JGP allotment too.

Michelle Long posted on her instagram stories videos of her doing a nice double axel triple toe (with a hint of frustration that she didn't get that combo done in competition) and a double axel-euler-triple salchow. I love that she's sticking with and I hope she'll get more international opportunities next year.
