High Performance Camp is typically for athletes on the national team, which is the top 5 at nationals. Brasseur/Bardei did not compete last season and thus did not meet that criteria.
Exceptions have been made in the past with adding people to the national team for returning skaters, or skaters who missed nationals due to injury (think Chan in 2015/2016 and Weaver/Poje in 2013/2014), but not that I can ever remember for a brand new team. Fournier-Beaudry/Sorenson were there, so one would assume they have been added to the national team as exceptions. They didn't compete for Canada last year obviously, but their previous work obviously merited them being added. As good as Brasseur/Bardei are and as much potential as they have, I don't see that meriting a spot on the national team with a single competition under their belt.
There are only 2 pair teams left on the national team once retirees are removed. The team will be officially named in September they say. Are you saying only 2 teams will compete internationally this yr. That is probably one of the stupider things Skate Canada has done. Does it not make sense to invite a few other top teams to HP camp to see them together to factor that in their decision of who is on the team. Or is this so their favourites will be national champions this yr without any danger of competition? Thinking that is a little more important than building bikes and media day.
