ETA more music news from GS' social media photos (linked above):

Gilles/Poirier: "... their warmer SD tango motivated by their FD in 2017 and a FD inspired by VanGogh’s relationship with art"
Austman: "SP set to Bang Bang and LP to The Sound of Silence"
Chartrand "has chosen a dark SP set to Westworld"

I wonder if its's SOS d'un terrien en détresse from Starmania. If so it's not a Kazakh piece (it's in French), but they might have a version sung by a Kazakh singer.

Here is Bruno Pelletier's version : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA0oyKJFsyE

Gregory Lemarchal : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4R8Ls5iwik

ETA : I found this version by a Kazak singer Dimash Kudaibergen : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyUu2ZS4VBA. Not bad, but as a French speaker who knows this song very well, the lyrics are incomprehensible.

I wonder if Weaver/Pope will skate to the French version or the English version of the song.

Brian Orser skated to the English version (Only the Very Best) for the 1996 Canadian Stars on Ice tour.

They are doing the version that Denis used by the Kazakh artist Dimash Kudaibergen. It's in French, although some fo the pronunciation is ... interesting as someone who speaks French.

ETA: maybe they aren't. Kaitlyn said something about them finding their own version in the video clip.

Just a little note to say that Dimash's youtube version has more than 2 000 000 views...

I was going to say the same. Starmania is a cyberpunkrock (!) opera (named Tycoon in its English version), a Canadian/French production as the music is from Berger and the lyrics from Luc Plamondon. Many French and Canadian singers got to play in the show along the years, such as Isabelle Boulay, Daniel Belavoine, Diane Dufresne, etc.

There are many well-known songs from the show as :
Le Monde est Stone (Garou)
Ce soir on danse à Naziland
Le Blues du Businessman
Un garçon pas comme les autres (Celine Dion)
(among others)
It is truly well-known within the French speaking countries, as equal as Notre-Dame-de-Paris (they will be starting a new production in few months btw).

How do you remember that, or did you look it up? I can't remember what most of skated to last year in their competitive programs, let alone a show number from two decades ago. :COP:

I still remember when Todd Eldredge skated to "This is the Moment" from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde show in 1996... :scream:

Dimash shot to fame internationally after participating in an incredibly popular Chinese competitive singing show, participants earn millions per episode supposedly. I think it's just GS's mistake calling it a Kazakh piece, Kaitlyn did say "we found our own version" so it may not be Dimash's at all, just a Denis connection.

Did Denis ever mention how he came to find this piece of music? I always assumed it was from Brian Joubert, whom he trained with in Poitiers for some time. Brian had used the Grégory Lemarchal version as an exhibition program for many years.

LOL so from the Skate Canada Instagram stories they had a team building thing where they had to assemble a bicycle. I wonder how this compares to the team building activities at the US champs camp.

It must be quite a change for Fournier Beaudry and Sorensen to suddenly be part of a fed with such a large apparatus.

But they might lose some of the independence that being part of a small federation with no history in the sport afforded them. It will certainly be something to adjust to, but given where they train I'm sure the adjustment will not affect them negatively.

A few interviews on Skate Canada youtube:

Is she skating to Dracula? All of the singles ladies have way too much make up but this one is ridiculous. What works for skating under bright lights doesn’t work for close ups.

In contrast, the women in pairs and dance teams look very natural.

My favorite new look on a man: Kevin Reynolds’ curls!

I think the ladeez do their make-up so to stand out as far back as the folks in the bleachers.

IMO most female skaters wear far too much make-up, though I don't understand that TV lights and cameras demand a certain amount of it. Granted, I was never one to wear make-up - I tried when I was young but was allergic to all that I put on, so never did get into the habit.

He's done well to tame that hair.

I am wondering why Justine Brasseur and Martin Bardai were not at high performance camp? I find that strange as much of their content is far superior to current pairs. Or did I miss them?

High Performance Camp is typically for athletes on the national team, which is the top 5 at nationals. Brasseur/Bardei did not compete last season and thus did not meet that criteria.

Exceptions have been made in the past with adding people to the national team for returning skaters, or skaters who missed nationals due to injury (think Chan in 2015/2016 and Weaver/Poje in 2013/2014), but not that I can ever remember for a brand new team. Fournier-Beaudry/Sorenson were there, so one would assume they have been added to the national team as exceptions. They didn't compete for Canada last year obviously, but their previous work obviously merited them being added. As good as Brasseur/Bardei are and as much potential as they have, I don't see that meriting a spot on the national team with a single competition under their belt.
