2018 GTSA Summer Skate (Toronto), August 16-19 in North York, ON

Our top three men at this looked really good for a summer skate, Keegan wow he skated just like he did when I watched him live in Milan.. he is a contender once again and such a sweet guy. Nam looks stronger an faster, too bad about the slight mess up with the combo but looks good. I really liked Bennet as well, not really familiar with him but he can jump and has Nice artistry. I agree @danafan if his long goes well give him a senior B

Watching the lower level senior women who you know will never skate nationally or internationally but have put the hours in to pass their tests and are likely finishing off their skating career, some of them patched up with injuries. Certainly not the skate some of them wanted but I truly respect them. Hope they get some excitement from being on the same ice as world class level skaters like Gabby Daleman.

Daleman

Samson and Delilah. Kinda tinkly Mon Coeur S'ouvre a ta Voix and into the orchestrated bacchanale to finish.

3Z fall
3F
3L
2A+3T
2Z, looked intentional
3S fall
2A+2T

Clearly going for the 3Z+3T layout in the LP now.

125.83

Senior women LP final group:

Gabby Daleman
3lz fall
3f
3lo
2a3t; 3t looked a bit short
2lz
3s fall
2a2t

Music is Samson & Delilah. I feel like the first half is a bit too soft for Gabby's powerful style, but there were some nice moments. It picks up with the Bacchanale in the 2nd half.

Score 125.83, total 187.80

Daleman had an ok long, errors on the first lutz so doubled the next also fell off the edge on triple sal. I loved the first half of the program it really showed her artistry and softness but then an abrupt music cut and a much harsher second half.. which I wasn’t a fan of. She looks very fit though. 125.83 for long so 187.8 overall not bad for early season summer comp

Helene Carle

Cleopatra

3L step and hand
2A turn 3T fall
3Z fall
3L << knee down
3S+2T
3S+2T
2F

81.57

Helene's speed is a bit lacking; I'd like to see her put more "attack" into her jumps, and the program overall.

Score 81.57, total 123.28

Senior women LP final group:

Gabby Daleman
3lz fall
3f
3lo
2a3t; 3t looked a bit short
2lz
3s fall
2a2t

That’s so interesting as I felt the complete opposite that finally they tapped into a softer side and loved the first half lol

I am definitely Team 2nd half. I am really not a fan of those particular vocals and it seemed to me like she came alive 2nd half with that music - though that may have been partly because most of the difficulty was over.

Michelle Long

Beautifully dressed as always

2Z
2A+3T fall, not a bad attempt
2F
2L+2T
2A
2S
3L turn out

97.70 (unclear to me how the score is that high?)

That's an ambition jump layout for Long, I wonder if she actually lands the triple lutz in practice. I'm glad she actually went for the double axel triple toe. Sadly I don't think she's going to get an international this year, but at least she has the 4CC minimums from last season going into nationals.

:wall: So many pops. I really do like this program for Michelle though, especially the emotion that she put into the spiral sequence at the end. And I loooove the colour of her dress.

Score 97.70, total 152.28

Maysie Poliziani

Phantom

3Z, step...very deliberate set up, but I think that's a new jump for her
3T, hand and turn
2S+ 2A, step
Mistake on a spin
3L step out
3S hand and step
2T
1A

98 78 something (sorry BF had the vacuum on and I couldn't hear!)

First POTO of the season!
Maysie showed good fight on her opening lutz, but the rest of the program kind of got away from her. Probably got a bit distracted by some uncharacteristic mistakes - missing a spin, and later running into the boards.

Score 78.80, total 130.12

Kim DeGuise Leveillee

Shazam says Hungarian Dance No 5, but I will continue to think of it as Brasseur/Eisler's 1994 sp ;)

2A+3T, under I think
2A
3S
2L
3F hand and step
3T foot down
3L maybe two foot

95.54 (151.12 total, 3rd)

I really liked Kim's attack and crisp movements at the beginning of the program. There were a few places where she sort of let go of the performance, but with a few more miles on it, this could be a really great program for her.

I know it’s the hair trend to have dark roots with blond highlights but I don’t find it flattering on skaters who have to pull their hair back like Kim and Gabby as the contrast hardens their face. Although beautiful young women

Jane Grey

Dr. Zhivago

3Z hand might have gone down
2A+2T
2F
3L fall
1A+1/2L+2S
3S+2T
3S

She has some beautiful jumps when she lands them.

97.27 (149.37, 4th)

This program was back to the softer style that I'm used to seeing from Jane, and I much prefer it to her SP. I wonder if she's planning to eventually try 2a3t as her 2nd jumping pass?

Score 97.27, total 149.37

It looked to me like that's what she was going for :)

Despite all the pops etc Michelle Long will move ahead of Alicia Pineault in the summer series. And Pineault got her international assignment already. I wonder if Long will get one after all.

Senior men on now, I would be curious to know what Bennett’s jump success ratio is on his practices as he’s a lovely skater and his jumps he fell on were so close. Maybe he needs more exposure to competitions? Must be tough for these senior skaters to get opportunities

Drat, I thought there was going to be a resurfacing, so I missed Bennet Toman while I was driving back from my parents' house. Good thing it's only 5 minutes away... :shuffle:

Score 133.34, total 204.19

Toman has quite a bit of international experience already, since the 2014-2015 season. He's been assigned to the Autumn Classic this year.

Ok thanks for info.. well he best practise some more then!

whoops, I think I missed a jump in there somewhere...

Max is a cute young kid. I'd like to see him work more on his carriage and body line; he has really long limbs, but looks like he isn't quite sure what to do with them yet.

Score 91.24, total 141.03

Fantastic opening for Nam, back to back quads with flow and speed! Lovely artistic interpretation of LaLa land. Beautiful triple axel an all of his jobs lovely!! Wow an awesome skate that boy has been working hard!
