2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

Anastasia Gubanova
LP: "Hope" by Abel Korzeniowsky

Is this her Romeo & Juliet program from last season?

I think (not 100% sure) that "Hope" is not a correct name of the piece and is a translation issue.
Korzhenovsky does not have any works called "Hope", but he has "skate-worthy" pieces called "Daydreams" and "Dream Maker". "Dream" in Russian also mean "wish/hope" if translated back to English.

News from the German thread:

Hocke/Blommaert
SP: Big Spender
FS: Romeo & Juliet (Korzeniowski)

From the Spanish news thread: @Zemgirl linked to a new Hurtado/Khaliavin interview, where they among other things talk about their programs
Hurtado explained that they wanted their Olympic year programs to be very special and related to Spanish language and culture.

“For the short [dance], we went with the groovy Latin rhythm of Carlos Santana. We hope it brings the public to dance and have a good time during those three minutes.”

“For the Free Dance, we chose ‘Don Quixote,’ but from the Spanish side of the story. It is about a couple in the streets of Spain who are in love, but her dad doesn’t want her to go with him because he is not wealthy. It is a love story.”

“We went to Madrid to work with the great Antonio Najarro to bring up an organic character and still keep the essence of the Quixote. It is a beautiful combination of Spanish and Russian culture we have made between classic ballet and flamenco. Hopefully people will remember it as ‘Hurtado-Khaliavin’s Quixote.’”

If they worked with Najarro for the FD I guess they worked with Zhulin for the SD
^^ I don't know about the SD but if the FD is supposed to be a combination of Spanish and Russian culture, and Zhulin is their coach, it would make perfect sense to work with both Najarro and Zhulin on that.

BTW, I left this part out:
“Working with Antonio was amazing, and he inspired me a lot in only a few days. I’m very proud to represent such a rich culture this season,” Khaliavin added.

Natalia Zabiyako/Aleksandr Enbert
SP: "Summer of '42"
LP: "Too Close" by Alex Clare, "I Love You Much Too Much" by The Andrews Sisters (piano version) and "The Sleeping Beauty".
The first part is a warm-up in the choreographic hall, the second - a duet, the third - a performance where Natalia and Aleksandr play the heroes of " The Sleeping Beauty"

They worked with the music Carmen with Marie-France and then Camerlengo?

Mozer named musical choices and then said: "First they worked on FS in Canada with Marie-France Dubreuil, but I didn't like that program, so in the end we gave up on it and went to Pasquale"
I don't know if they took the music "with them" or went to a completely different direction from what Marie-France proposed.

I am pleased, that at least the SP is a great choice, a stunning to be honest.
Those 2 have the 'classic' russian pairs skating look for me. I so badly want them to be good.
(Well we know how this ends most of the times...)

I feel like their 1998 tech content can only take them so far. :EVILLE:

I do admire the randomness of Alex Clare + instrumental Andrews Sisters + Sleeping Beauty music selection, perhaps they will use a record scratching effect to assist in the music cuts! :cheer:

I'm torn between "OH NOES, WAY TOO MANY CARMENS AT THE OLYS!" and "oh yeah, Stolbova will show all those little girls how Carmen is done!"

Totally. Compared to the WTF-ery around them in Camp Mozer, Besame Mucho and Carmen are perfect choices for Stolbova. Let's hope they can stay healthy.

What is that WTF-ery, in your opinion? Are you really talking about programs? Okay, their 2014/2015 season programs were not that great, but they were not horrible either. The SP warrior woman image suited Stolbova. Their Sochi Olympic season SP was just okay, but the FS/LP was quite wonderful. The 2015/2016 season programs were perfect, in my opinion, even if 'I Put a Spell on You' was already a bit overused. Last season's SP was fine, simply something different for them, and the LP could have been great if they were in better form and had more outings with it.

Besides, the Mozer era haven't ended for them. She is still their coach, but she has never been their or anyone else's choreographer.

Why can't that be the FS for gods sake? :wall:

Mozer: Let's chose the worst music package for the Russian pair with traditional looks...
