A look back to the 2012 Canadian Championships. They were held in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Men
Patrick Chan was the defending champion and reigning world champion. In the free skate, he was flawless and broke the 300 threshold. Kevin Reynolds finished second and Jeremy Ten won the bronze. There were two berths available for the men. Patrick successfully defended his title at Worlds and Reynolds finished 12th, allowing three berths for the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships.

Women
The women were in a bit of a rut with the retirement of Joannie Rochette. Cynthia Phaneuf was the defending champion and had a disappointing season. She struggled in the short practice program, finishing fourth. However, the show was stolen by a sixteen year old named Kaetlyn Osmond. She dazzled and won the short program. Phaneuf rebounded with a solid free skate to finish second. Amelie Lacoste won the title and Osmond would finish third. Phaneuf and Lacoste would have a showdown at Four Continents for the lone berth at Worlds. Lacoste beat Cynthia and went to Worlds and finished 16th. Osmond competed at Junior Worlds and finished tenth. Gabrielle Daleman won the Canadian Junior title that year. This was the end of the slump, as several talented juniors would enter the senior ranks the following year.

Pairs
Two teams were going to Worlds. Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch were the defending champions in pairs. Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford were in first place. MTM struggled in the free skate and fell off the podium in fourth. Duhamel and Radford skated cleanly and won the title. Jessica Dube and her new partner, Sebastian Wolfe finished in second place. At Worlds, Meagan and Eric finished in fifth. Dube and Wolfe finished 12th, securing two spots at Worlds in 2013.

Ice Dance
Tessa Virtue aand Scott Moir were the reigning champions and world silver medalists. There were three spots available for the Worlds. Tessa and Scott won the national championship and would win the World Championships, their last until the won in 2017. Caitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje won the silver at Canadians and finished fifth at Worlds. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier were third but the USFSA hadn't released Piper so they were unable to go to Worlds. Kharis Ralph and Asher Hill who finished fourth competed at Worlds and finished 13th.
