2026-27 Program Music and Choreographers

Well, this season there are vacancies to fill now.

Are there? It doesn't seem like we've gotten the amount of retirement announcements I expected post Olympic/Worlds.. I think I've read about more splits than retirements. In fact, the first music announcement in this thread was about someone everyone thought was retiring!

Anyway... if there are any vacancies, I'm sure you'll make them hole... erm, I mean whole. :saint:

I may be totally off base, but I expect another burst of announcements by the end of May from skaters who were on the fence, got to the rink to start planning, and were overwhelmed with the “Do I really want another season/quad of this?”

Agreed. Plus, they don't necessarily have to make any decisions until closer to whenever the GP Host Commission meets to figure out GP Assignments, which will probably be around the same time as the ISU Congress in early June.

I think some skaters may not feel, I have to skate 4 more years. It is a lets see how it goes.

I imagine that the top skaters who we don't expect to continue (ex: C/B, Gil/P, Gui/F) will post a 'not competing next season' announcement just before GP assignments are released. I wouldn't expect most of them to use the "R" word. After all, most skaters don't officially "retire" anymore. As is noted often here, MK never retired, or D/W, Nathan.....

Didn't C/B say something to the effect of "going out" and "last performance" at Nationals, and the same sort of wording for skipping Worlds ("proud of their results and nothing left to accomplish, etc.")? I don't think we really need an official "retired" statement to know they are done.

Some of them may want to keep things open right now for enforcement reasons as well.
And insurance purposes - especially the older USFS athletes who get their health insurance through the USOPC. Maintaining their active athlete status, even if with no intention of competing, would give them additional time to sort out that piece of their financial future if they haven't already.

Do you mean "endorsement"?

Right, that's my point. Many skaters don't officially make a retirement announcement but they tell us in other words that they are done.

To get back on topic :D , it looks like Misha Ge is choreographing an R&J program (Rota version) for Rena Uezono. I won't make an official entry until it's confirmed, though.

Leah Neset/Artem Markelov (USA)
FD: The Phantom of the Opera
Choreographer: Nikolai Morozov

I may be speaking through my personal dislike of Bolero, but this does not seem like the right fit for Z/K, and not just because it's a warhorse. It just feels like completely wrong music for them in a season where the RD is likely to be a challenge already and you'd like to see them gaining momentum.

I really hope to be proven wrong.
So interesting to see your take on this. My thought was that it is a terrific choice for a couple that can skate big and has the endurance to skate that way at the end of their program. I guess we'll see how it goes!
