I doubt that's it. He didn't look tired. He was popping jumps which he never does and which is generally a mental thing.

I’ve been saying that he’s been off since the GPF. He was way off his best at the US comp. Even in the TE, he was off.

Actually I have been saying that he looks like his body has grown up, more muscular and that brings rotational changes. A couple
of years ago I used to marvel how he could do everything he did on such skinny legs, but now he looks like an athlete. Could be why he’s off this year.

As much as I wanted him to win, I love Yuma’s skating the most so I’m sad he couldn’t make the most of the opportunity.

Finishing 5th here is only going to consolidate his belief in himself that he has found this season. This is the FIRST season (since he was a junior) that I have not been nervous for him at all when he skated. He has finally found the confidence he didn't have before. HUGE congrats to him. He sure did himself and Canada proud.

All of that is very true, but all the same, he missed out on an Olympic medal by 1.12 points. There's no way he's not going to be thinking about what might have been.

I remember a certain Nathan Chen bombing his SP at the 2018 Olympics, only to come back and win pretty convincingly in Beijing. I have a feeling Ilia will learn from this and win convincingly in 2030.
