2026 Olys Mens FS PBP - Habemus Pop-am

I’ve been saying that he’s been off since the GPF. He was way off his best at the US comp. Even in the TE, he was off. I blame the federations and the push to do all the media. Leave athletes in their bubble. Le sigh.

OTOH,
Three great skaters that each had one great skate, and the best skate of the night (with a solid short) won. Can’t argue with that.

What an insane free program with the men menning. Such a poor quality of skating when I compare this to the last time I saw the biggest championships of the year at Montreal Worlds.

This result feels like Sarah Hughes and Evan Lysacek winning, and to a lesser extent Tara and Shizuka winning. Shaidorov is just jumps with not much else going on.

Stephen should have been 3rd overall if not 2nd after these performances. When Shun barely beat Stephen I had this sinking feeling Stephen would be oh so close.

If Gogolev had landed that triple loop cleanly, he'd be an Olympic bronze medalist.

I had said previously he couldn't have asked for more from Milano, but that's going to haunt him now, I think.
I don't think it will haunt him. At least, I hope not. Finishing 5th here is only going to consolidate his belief in himself that he has found this season. This is the FIRST season (since he was a junior) that I have not been nervous for him at all when he skated. He has finally found the confidence he didn't have before. HUGE congrats to him. He sure did himself and Canada proud.

And why are people cursing actual individual skaters and their performances due to the shenanigans of the judges? People are happy Adam and Ilia imploded?
I mean by this logic what is Ilia paying for? Chock/Bates supporters whining about the results? This is stupid and mean.

Adam and Ilia are great skaters who had a horrible night. They don't deserve it and I hope they can bounce back successfully because skating needs them both.
