2025–26 Canadian Men: News and Updates

Speaking for myself, I hope Stephen doesn't get in his head about being so close to securing Canada a second spot. I hope he skates for himself and just enjoys skating for the fourth time on Olympic ice after a long and hard fought journey. Just have fun, Stephen, you've earned it.

Spots for Worlds are determined at Worlds....so the only pressure here is for him to skate his best and see where he finishes after his Free Program!

SC definitely needs to send him to Worlds! If we didn't insert the narrative that "Gogo is only jumps, but not as artistic as so-and-so", Gogo could have have a couple extra politically-pushed PCS points to get that bronze! Give Gogo more political points along with his very solid jumps! That second axel was fantastic!

Rob Brodie's thoughts on Stephen's performance today and his future potential: Olympics 2026: Why the Stephen Gogolev era is just getting started
Oh, and there’s more. Gogolev’s fifth-place finish in Milan was the highest for a Canadian man since Patrick Chan’s silver medal in Sochi in 2014. That’s 12 long years ago, so indeed, this was a watershed moment for men’s skating in Canada.

It’s the kind of thing that allows skating fans in this country to dream of a return to the time when competitors wearing the red maple leaf would challenge for the highest men’s titles in the sport. And it isn’t difficult to see Gogolev earning a top-10 spot at next month’s World Championships in Prague, which would open up the door for a provisional second spot for 2027 Worlds in Tampere, Finland.

I can vouch that Rob Brodie is very knowledgeable about figure skating and he's been covering Canadian figure skaters regularly in his Substack (and well before that in various media outlets).

For those who care :), "provisional" has since been removed from his article:

Maybe they mean if some other men’s skater from Canada gets the minimum tech score to attend?

But if so, they should just say that.

I'm betting that he meant that, if you earn more spots than you have skaters in the free skate, you earn the right to send one skater to the Olympic qualifier in Beijing.

But it's not the Olympics, so...

Thereby just about proving he reads FSU :cheer2:
I've been reading his FS articles for a while now.

No offense but why would Skate Canada consider sending Roman to worlds given that Roman at his best will finish below top 15. We have seen at the Olympics that Stephen' potential to put up similar scores to the top 5 men in the world is a real possibility. Stephen should go to worlds without question.
