‘26-27 Site Rumors Nationals & Skate America

Southwest Pacific Regionals was held right before(?) Skate America that year. I attended both in 2011 and I assume the local clubs' resources/volunteer base were stretched pretty thin that year (ETA - I'm not defending USFS here ;)).
My understanding is the agreement with the host "organization"/city generally requires SOME promotion. I was working in the area and...no ONE I worked with even knew the event existed...

Ya know...you could get a sheet of ice (temporary) at Navy Pier. Then they could have the main Nationals events at the United Center. It's 25 drive without traffic, but Chicago is so fun.

I'm all in on them coming to Columbus, OH again. That US Nats was incredibly well run, in a great area with lots of food options, and the ice issue would be non existent since they are such a big complex with the practice rink right there. It's also not far from the airport. Come back to Ohio! :cheer:

SKAM in ONT had nothing to do with any of the local clubs, period. It was joint event of USFS and the arena. I don't disagree promotion was nil but don't point the finger at the local clubs.

All Year had just held SWP Regionals the weekend before. Glacier Falls had hosted Synchro Nationals six month prior. Many local people volunteered at SKAM, but it was their desire to do so.

As a Buffalonian, I fully support this idea. Skate America was held here in the 90s, back when the old Auditorium was in existence. Now we have KeyBank Center and the Harbor Center. Kick the Sabres out for a week, they don't win games anyway. 😉

Well, Nats is being held in St. Louis this year. Blue note is singing the Blues, keeping good company with the Sabres.

What was the consensus with Hoffman Estates for SKAM? I went in 2014. It was a decent venue, but sort of away from everything. It's near @AngieNikodinovLove (ANL)'s old stomping grounds. Maybe she'll finally show up to a skating event if we nag enough.

Lol yes I’m from a suburb right next to Hoffman Estates. It seems it had medium sized attendance from both times it was there?

I still have been impressed with the both times it was in Allen, Texas, it was loud it was energetic, it was highly attended.

I think stick with Allen, Texas for a while.

Hoffman Estates is a nice arena for skating, but you need a car.
I didn't need a car, but you have to be willing and able to do a lot of walking. The weather was decent so it wasn't a problem. I'd hate to make the walk to and from the arena to the closest hotel if the weather wasn't decent. And since I didn't want to rent a car from the airport, I needed to pay for an expensive shuttle ride to the hotel.

I’m surprised Indianapolis hasn’t tried to host SKA or Nationals. Downtown has Lucas Oil Stadium, the Convention Center and Gainbridge Fieldhouse; the Indiana State Fairgrounds has the Indiana Farmers Coliseum (6500), the adjoining Pop Weaver Ice Arena and the Fall Creek Pavilion (4000-5000), all within a few hundred feet of each other; just up the road from the fairgrounds is the brand new Fishers Event Center (7500 configured for hockey). Indy has a long history of hosting national events, just not figure skating. We had a turnout iof over 24,000 for the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials last cycle- their largest attendance ever.

The first year it was there it was pretty full. The second year, it was only about half full or a little more. Personally I didn't love the layout of the venue, but I enjoyed exploring the area both times I went (but a car was definitely necessary).

Indianapolis used to host the Indy Pairs Challenge in late summer, but that stopped maybe a decade or more now. There are a lot of bigger hotels and plenty of restaurants in the downtown core, but from my recent trips there hotels and parking have been getting increasingly pricey.

I keep thinking maybe Phoenix will apply for Nationals some day. They have several decent size skate clubs.

Vegas tourism has been trending down, and December is always the poorest month for visitors and conventions. Vegas should host the GPF. USFS has only hosted the GPF once! (More than 2 decades ago!!!)
