Survivor season 49

No thoughts on this one yet? Or have people finally given up on the show? I finally watched the premiere online since I don't have TV at the moment. Still is hard for me to get a feel for people on episode one, when there's so many of them. But it looks like there will be some strategists and villains in this one. Good for Rizo knowing his weakness at the puzzle and cheating when he could! All's fair in love, war and Survivor!

I'm going to watch! I still love Survivor.
Our evenings are so busy that I have to let the episodes build up on my PVR. I'll end up bingeing them on a weekend at some point!!!

I thought it was a good first episode. I may watch it again, though, because my dog was being a total jerk that night and I'm sure I missed things.

I rewatched several of the older seasons over the past year or so. It has changed SO MUCH. I still love old school Survivor the most.

I'm watching. I missed part of the first episode because a storm was interfering with my connection.

I LOLed at the generation gap bit between Nate and all the Zs on his tribe. But IME, most Zs love parent figures who don't boss them around or try to act "cool," so I think Nate is probably going to be okay there.

The shoe bandit thing has to be the stupidest thing I have ever seen. If Jake wants to go down as the shoe bandit in Survivor lore, I guess he can, but absolutely no one will ever reference it unless it's as a stupid thing someone did one season, so

Jeremiah has the most amazing evil-villain-in-a-cartoon cackle I have ever heard--and I don't mean amazing in Z way, but amazing in a "wow, that's really . . . something" way. It does make him stand out; he's the first one I identified.

My goodness, Jason is good at puzzles. He must not be good at socializing, as he hasn't been shown interacting with anyone and he wasn't even mentioned in the alliance of four discussion.

Survivor sure does love Savannah as the storyteller for Uli. She's good at it (of course), but I am not growing fonder. Shannon would make me crazy with all the woo.

I like Nate and Rizo so far. Still sorting most of them out. I like Alex ok, but not attached to Jake, who I think is an idiot.

Way too many people for me to keep them all straight, but I love it when people who sit there in interviews talking about how they are controlling the game are the ones who get booted and how everyone talks about that person and how it was a no brainer they are gone first.

The dude with the crazy evil laugh though ....

Definitely a lot of interesting people - hard to keep them all straight
glad Annie got booted - was so cocky.
ITA - shoe bandit is dumb. That guy seems promising - but has some weaknesses.

Sophie is going to get dumped. Bros are going to choose each other, especially over a chick they aren't sleeping with. He isn't even going to witness the birth of his own child.

The prevailing theme of every Survivor ever is that people are furiously offended that the person they were scheming against is scheming against them.

Well, I didn't like Jake, but that was a sad way to go out, and scary. He's very lucky it was a dry bite! Kind of crappy that they made Kele vote someone out as well, I don't recall any other medivac having a vote out in the same episode before. Obviously next week they're going to have a tribe shakeup, since a tribe of two is hopeless. Still liking Nate and Rizo the best so far, but we aren't seeing a lot of the winning tribes still to get a vibe on them.

Sea snakes, while venomous, are pretty peaceful. I wonder what he was doing when it bit him. I'm thinking he accidentally stepped on it; I have a matching scar on my foot from stepping on a stingray.

I guess the shoe bandit will be remembered as the guy who got snakebit instead of being the shoe bandit.

I did kind of laugh when Jeff said (more or less): Sea snakes are very venomous! Everybody in the water for the challenge!

I'm glad they are merging next week, as Kele has been a major drag.

Jason got to speak! And we got to see why he doesn't speak often. But he is the puzzle master.

Since we already knew Rizo is coming back for 50, in a season that was supposedly geared toward the fans and includes the favorites mind you (without any fan ever having seen him or the other contestant from this season who is also competing), I'm suspecting he really amps up the wit and screen time now that we don't get the story of Kele falling apart throughout 90% of the episodes.

Pretty surprised with Jake's evacuation that they still went ahead with the immunity challenge just after all of this happened and didn't just skip the activities as they have done often in the past when someone leaves. Along those lines, I don't know how I feel about tribe reshuffling based on one tribe completely falling apart. It can totally screw over games based on the luck of the draw-- which is true of all Survivor-- but they are forced into this based on such decimations of one team. This happened way back in season 3 in Africa, when Silas and to a lesser extent Lindsey were victims of the first-ever swap after looking like they were going to steamroll through their tribe. They weren't very friendly so I suppose people were thrilled with the sudden twist.

I don't really have opinions on any of them yet because it's been such a lopsided focus of the camps, but I can see why they are running with Rizo being marketable.
