Shibutani brother and sister (google translate). It's great that they include it in Korean because they have a lot of fans in Korea :)

They are also US Sports Envoys and their first ambassador mission was in Seoul, Korea.
The Shibs follow in the footsteps of Michelle Kwan and Evan Lycacek, the last US figure skaters named to the role.

This post from the US Embassy includes a lovely picture I hadn't seen before. Maia especially looks radiant.

Awww. I remember looking at Madison Hubbell's Instagram some time last year, shortly after Hubbell/Donohue moved to Montreal, and I think it was Stella that commented that she missed her. I always wanted the Shibs to skate to a Camerlengo routine.

Arden Cho's Instagram story has lots of pics and videos of her with Alex and Maia and their adventures today:

ETA:

Alex tweeted this:

This role seems to be tailor-made for him. I hope he goes for it.

I know, that would be fabulous, he did a good job on that Nickelodeon episode.
And I love when they hang out with Arden because she post a lot of pictures, I love her.

My interview with Maia and Alex we did in Helsinki (that one ;) )

Maia and Alex Shibutani: building bridges between worlds
http://absoluteskating.com/interviews/2017shibutani.html

OMG, best interview ever!! thank you.
They talk so mature and focused, I am surprised that this interview was right after Worlds, because the whole situation could have discouraged them and by the tone of the interview, it seems that the opposite happened.

Alex: We've got a lot on our plate, we're always willing to grow and if there was unlimited time I'd love to do a short film. I'd love to challenge ourselves even more. Not a reality blog.. ( yes, please)

Alex: Never thought when I was a kid that I am going to get to Kazakhstan, and it's through this crazy thing called "figure skating" that we end up there with Tatiana and Max, Olympic champions, and Stéphane Lambiel, someone who we watched in 2003 at the World Championships! It was one of the turning points before last season where we had a lot of success... ( Thanks Tat, Max and Stephane :wuzrobbed)

Alex: Actually tomorrow we're leaving in the afternoon to go directly to Switzerland to work with Stéphane.

To work on competitive programs?

Alex: Yes. Well, it's very early, so it's going be a similar process to last year when we worked with a lot of people.
( so, they were working in a possible competitive program with Stephane.)

Alex: We know when we're overextending ourselves, so there have been lots of opportunities that we've had over the past couple of years...
Maia: ...incredible things, really...
Alex: ... that we had to say "no". Because skating is right now our complete priority.
(What things??!! :wall:)

Alex just uploaded the new vlog!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVg4N6fU6jY

It's at the Spiderman: Homecoming premier. This one felt more like a commercial for LA2024 and Spider-Man, but it's a cool glimpse into that world and nice to see them get the red carpet treatment.

Speaking of, Maia and Alex have a cameo appearance in YouTuber Wil Dasovich's vlog at the Spider-Man: Homecoming premier: https://youtu.be/-NM68Or1Dbc?t=485

He's a bit much for me, but it was funny to see his friend first mistake them as ballet dancers and Wil being excited to see another YouTuber in Alex only to realize that they're more known for being Olympic ice skaters.

Donnalyn Bartolome (the one who identified them as "ballet" dancers) with the Shibs at the premier: https://youtu.be/31iKikD0Dy0?t=201

I'm liking this quote from Maia . . .

This is a great interview @reut! Thank you! There is so much detail. I loved reading about their process and all of their collaborations. Also, it sounds like Tatiana and Max spent real time talking with them about how their skating could grow and take the next step. I can't wait to see their programs for next season! And I can't wait to see them at SA!

Maia's birthday is in a few days, and she's asking anyone who follows her on social media to donate to Charity Water.

https://my.charitywater.org/maia-shibutani/my-birthday-wish

Here's her statement:

Hi everyone!

It's my birthday on July 20th and to celebrate, I am pledging to raise funds for the amazing non-profit organization, charity: water!

This organization's work is very important to me and I would appreciate your help as I try to reach the goal of funding the complete construction of a water project which would bring clean water to more than 300 people.

As my brother, Alex, and I prepare and train for the Olympics, we are working harder than ever - physically, we are in the best shape of our career. This is in part due to our training on and off the ice, but also because of a more keen awareness of nutrition. We are leaving no stone unturned. This year, appropriate hydration is scientifically something that we know will help our performance.

I am grateful that I can express myself, follow my dreams, and perform for people around the world while skating on top of frozen water. But, here's the thing... 663 million people in the world live WITHOUT clean water! That's 1 in 10 people. Access to clean water is a basic human need and affects quality of life, health, and education.

Every year on my birthday, I really appreciate the gifts I receive. However, nothing would make me happier this year, than if you would donate to charity: water instead. 100% of every donation will be sent straight to the field.

I first heard about charity: water from Alex. He loves podcasts and had me listen to Bill Simmons' interview with charity: water's founder Scott Harrison. As I learned more about the organization, I was convinced that I had to do something. Any amount you can donate would be amazing!

I'm not expecting that celebrating my birthday is enough of a catalyst to help me reach this goal. To be honest, I'm not sure that what I'm about to propose is either... but today is the 5-year anniversary of when Alex and I uploaded our first video to our YouTube channel! 75 videos later, we have shared hours of our lives with you guys. Many of you have asked how you can support us as we create our videos in our "free time". If our videos have entertained you, or brought you some happiness these past 5 years, it would be amazing if you could show your love for our ShibSibs channel in the form of even a small contribution to this campaign.

Thank you!

If you can donate, I will do my best to respond to all of the comments here.
If you donate more than $10, comment your Instagram handle and I'll thank you and do a shout out in my Instagram stories!
