Alysa Liu cheer/fan thread

NYT feature about Alysa at Elton's party:
Thanks for the NYT gift link, @Cachoo! Excerpt from the beginning:
Movie stars, schmovie stars: It was the night of the Academy Awards, and all anyone wanted to do was talk to Alysa Liu.
Ms. Liu, the 20-year-old figure skater who won gold at the 2026 Olympic Games, was greeted with cheers when she arrived on Sunday at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s annual Oscars viewing party, held in West Hollywood Park under a series of large white tents. Reporters clamored to interview her. Fans lined up to offer their congratulations.
Ms. Liu took it all in with the same mixture of enthusiasm and mild bewilderment that has been her default throughout her monthlong victory lap. She wore a trim black suit from Louis Vuitton, whose show she had attended at Paris Fashion Week a few days earlier.
“It was amazing,” she said of the fashion show, smiling broadly enough to reveal the delicate piercing that rests on her front teeth. She turned to a task as difficult as any triple axel: locating one’s seat at a sprawling dinner party. “Do you know where Table 49 is?” she asked a reporter.
Billie Jean King posted 2 photos with Alysa and Madi Chock at Elton's watch party:

Was this one posted? Alysa running into Madison at an Oscar’s viewing party?

I’m so far behind I feel like I’m stuck on 2016 worlds here.

Yes thanks ANL - that's their encounter filmed from another angle. An X clip was posted in this thread last night with Pride being the original source:

Alysa wore 2 different Louis Vuitton outfits yesterday:
First, she attended Elton John’s 2026 Oscars viewing party wearing an edgy take on the classic black tux. Liu’s version featured a black blazer slung over her shoulders, paired with a white turtleneck blouse with long cuffed sleeves that fell over her hands. The tips of her pointed black shoes just peeked out from the hem of her pants.
Later in the evening, she attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a full look by Louis Vuitton: a black minidress embroidered with gunmetal pearls, paired with tights and black satin pumps. She accessorized with white gold and diamond rings from the French house’s fine jewelry collection. Liu already appears to be a friend of the brand; she just attended its recent runway show last week.

OMG! That is so adorable! Better than the traditional Wheaties box, I must say.

The way Alysa has hit the cultural mainstream is truly remarkable and astounding. Nail art by a new fan!

It truly is amazing! Again I say Go Alysa! Get those endorsements! 🤑💰 💰💰

I've been wondering about this but, for anyone who is old enough to remember, was it this (seemingly) big as far as this huge mainstream fame for earlier Olympic champions like Dorothy Hamill, Peggy Fleming? I have read about television ice skating specials that they did. I also wonder how big it got for even earlier Olympic ladies champions like Tenley Albright and Carol Heiss? Of course, long before all of them was Olympic champion Sonja Henie who became a movie star, and was fortunate to rise along with the heyday of big Hollywood musicals and productions!

Back to Alysa, from her comments in interviews, she seems to be reluctant to do shows like Dancing With The Stars. I wonder if eventually she will be persuaded? I can also totally see her doing cameos on some TV shows! And I'm also wondering if she'll consider a book deal! In any event, I can't wait to see what other fun opportunities are coming her way!

I think for the times it was Dorothy that captured a ton of attention. First the wedge haircut took off after she won. I think it was as big a deal as Farrah Fawcett and Jennifer Aniston's popular cuts. And she had all sorts of endorsements and magazine covers. Peggy was big too but figure skating was more niche in the 60's than now. Peggy was actually on an episode of "To Tell The Truth" after she had won the national championship. The panel had no idea who she was at the time. There wasn't the immediacy of social media but there were three major television networks so Dorothy's commercials went out to many millions tuning into their favorite shows. Also there were plenty of televised Pro/Am contests and Dorothy was active there. Peggy sometimes participated too.

We are in new territory with Alysa. Social media is so up to the minute. And not always truthful or at least very speculative. And it is world wide. I'd say Dorothy was well known in North America. I'd say Alysa has a much bigger audience. And she is thoughtful, smart and lovable. I hope she can keep things at arm's length when she wants solitude.

IIRC Dorothy Hamill did TV appearances with Gene Kelly. (And, of course, was around the then-show biz scene enough to have married into it.)

I'm not surprised that "Dancing" isn't of interest to Alysa. Trad broadcast, and not her demo at all. There are other newer platforms / kinds of performing. Plus, people can make fortunes just from social media activities.

(Altho I dislike that whole influencer world myself, when that's the only reason people become well known.:(And I think Alysa is smart to limit her social. It can be too much.)

This. I do worry that her current level of fame might dim the joy that was so evident during her run to the OGM. She has a right to be protective of her privacy, and I hope she exercises that right.
