True, but it is still common (and actually expected) in fundie communities. When N/M had their public wedding people were saying her parents insisted on it because the family is religious but when it came out that they had been legally married for several months already it just added to the ick and made the other claims rather dubious. And then all the other marriages came out and made it worse. That's why I think commentators backed off on the marriage mentions.
