Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

@SHARPIE I’m currently watching Bridget Jones mad about the boy on Peacock right now. I love Renee and I think she was such a great choice for this role, however, this is coming out to me like an episode of sex and the city .. and about dating and about how girls Pineaway for boys to like them ….
I watched it, and I got a very different impression. In fact, I think it was much less about dating and pining away for guys than the previous movies in the franchise. Certain decisions Bridget makes in this movie are kind of illustrative of that because the Bridget of 25 years ago would have been different. And Bridget's current relationship with Daniel kind of illustrated that. IMO, this movie has the most heart of any in the franchise, and I don't mean in a romantic way. It also had a bit of a nostalgic feel. (The reindeer sweater in the final scene got me.) Some of the cameos were a bit forced, and the initial scenes with Hugh were a bit silly and a reminder that this really is a romCOM, but I was fine with that. Two thumbs up from me.

You’re right, I just finished it. It was a really good movie. I think Renee is very good in this role.

Wow, Bridget Jones was indeed really really good. Cried a little bit. Do you think they really brought Colin back to film that one quick scene inside the school recital? Or are they using AI for this now?

He made several appearances. In addition to the school recital, I recall him walking toward her when she was going to the dinner party and also being in the children's bedroom at one point. I think it probably took one day for him to shoot. I can't imagine that any actor would agree to AI at this point.

I finally caught up with The Substance on the weekend because it is now on one of my streaming services. I will put my thoughts into a spoiler in case others haven't seen it. Agree about Demi Moore's performance. It was really good.

I found the psychological aspects of it were really good. It was a more sophisticated take on the Death Becomes Her theme of trying to stay young. Quite dystopian in it's approach. The way that was done was quite clever and original. I think the horror part of it (more just revolting stuff and gore) was actually unnecessary and overdone. It could have ended at a particular place but had to keep going.

It also quite liked the directional choices that were made. Such as the style of font that was used in the instructions of the Substance. It was all quite effective.

Watched the trailer of the new Superman movie. I have seen the MI trailer 4 times so far. So when it started today, I took a restroom break. I do plan on watching that movie though.

Saw ‘Sonic 3 hedgehog’ today. It was not in my plan. I wouldn’t go to see that kind of movie. Unusual circumstances. I lost my phone during the afternoon movie. Realized it after I got home. Rushed back to the theatre to recover it but they couldn’t do it because the next movie had already begun.

I had to kill roughly two hours. Instead of driving home and back at 9:45pm I saw a movie that would end around the same time. I was comfortable for two hours and after the Sonic 3 ended, I got my phone back.

Should I write a review? It was not as bad as I had feared. Three/four cute animated characters, some villains, lots and lots of cgi and fighting. The earth was in trouble. The heros were trying to save it. I am sure many will find it entertaining. I was just happy to be in a nearly empty theatre, a comfortable place. :)

New F1 movie BTS, from this morning's/last night's F175 season launch:

The movie has faced a bit of backlash since the Superbowl ad due to the inclusion of a potential romance subplot between Pitt's driver character and the female engineer character. A lot of fans are very annoyed because it plays into the stereotype that women in motorsport only exist to be love interests to the male drivers. This also sticks out as particularly egregious as this year we have our first female race engineer, Laura Mueller, who is looking after Esteban Ocon at Haas.

I've only seen Sonic 1 and 2, and surprisingly, I liked them. I'm sure I'll see Sonic 3 whenever my son wants to. I'm glad it was enjoyable. Sometimes, we need happy fluff.

The Sonic movies have gotten good reviews.

I haven't watched Sonic 2 or 3 yet, mostly because I don't have Paramount Plus and am not currently super motivated to get it. But the first Sonic movie was surprisingly good and from what I've read Sonic 2 matches it really well. Sonic 3 is actually better than both of them from what I've read and what my friends have told me.

The Sonic movies are lots of fun. I think 2 is the best, but they’re all pretty great. It’s fun to watch Jim Carrey play :)

I saw the monkey tonight. Loved it. It is more of a dark comedy with over the top deaths than a horror movie.

Going back to my post about Sonic 3 Hedgehog-

The movie I was watching when my iPhone fell out of my purse (bad zipper) was an Indian movie (Chhava) in Hindi with English subtitles. I went to see it on someone’s recommendation.

This was no Bollywood movie with songs and dances. I don’t care for those. It was historical so I was interested.

I had a horrible time. War fought with swords and shields, lot of blood and awful injuries, torture. I had to close my eyes many times. After the movie I almost felt sick. Before I got in my car I spat on the ground to get the bad taste out.

Was there something good? Yes. Costumes, sets, acting. The perpetual action and violence left no room for any subtlety. I thought I would give it 5/10. I looked up couple of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. They had given it 2.5/5. So we were in total agreement.

I don’t know if people who love constant action Will like it. It wasn’t just action; it was blood and gore.

After seeing a movie with blood and gore in the afternoon the Sonic 3 in the evening was like an antidote for me. There was lots of action, which I normally don’t care for, but it was all clean and fun.
