Oh, hell... Judges PCSed them ahead of MetBeru. Can't say I agree with that at all...

I reluctantly agreed with it. Their speed and skating skills are the best in the field, as are their lifts (despite being off here).

I had a feeling that the Georgians would narrowly take the free, but that the Japanese did just enough to hold overall. I don’t like it either, but it seemed fair.

Minority opinion: I do think the Japanese should win if all go clean. Given the state of her jumps, that may be a pipe dream, but putting it out there anyway!

I never ever voted for Paul Poirier and still can't see the attraction. But, I don't think it's because I evaded being dropped on my head - I think it's just a matter of having good taste.

Good call, confirmed by the protocols. Knowing that they didn't get any credit for the third jump helps with understanding their placement relative to Conti and Macii.

Third and fifth in the free were separated by 1.09 points.

I didn't realize O'Shea only did a 1A as the third jump until I saw the protocols. I was marvelling at Ellie somehow getting a second double axel off and forgot about him. Still, if they had gotten credit for the third jump, even the 1.1 base value for the single axel would've been enough to push them into third in the free skate, assuming it would not have made the already bad GOE worse.
