Sad anniversary today - 911 ?

Yes. While I didn't personally know any of the victims, I have several friends who lost loved ones that day. One of the great tragedies of my lifetime.

Remembering 9/11. What started as a beautiful, clear day ended in horror and sadness. My sister was working in the Pentagon, and we didn't know for hours that she had survived. Over 40 of her coworkers died and that she wasn't among them was a small miracle. She had been in a meeting and had left to meet a new employee and escort him to the meeting. He had arrived late and that saved both their lives; those in the meeting all died.

I'll never forget the surreal experience of driving home from the Navy Yard with my carpool after we were finally released and seeing almost no traffic on the road. The Pentagon was still in flames and emergency vehicles were parked everywhere along our road, and we drove by in silence. No matter how many years pass, we will never forget those who were lost.

Someone posted the transcript of Todd Beamer's phone call again today. I still can't read it without crying.

ETA: I was just reminded on Twitter that this is what you might call a reconstructed transcript based on the operator's notes, not an actual transcript, so I shouldn't have labeled it as such. My apologies.

That had to have been a horrible feeling/experience not knowing if she had survived .. on top of everything else that happened that day ?.

Oh my. One of the RNs who started work that day in my hospital, kept getting calls, one after the other. As we were in an orientation day, no cell phones or texts could be answered. Finally after about 20 missed calls with a 10 minute time frame she asked to leave the room to answer.

Her husband was also starting a new job at the Pentagon that morning. He wanted to tell he was not hurt, not in the area of the attack.

That's when we found out about the planes.

This day will always be etched in my memory. The weather in my area that day was a perfect crisp fall day, clear skies, changing colours etc.

I did not know anyone who perished in this terrorist attack. Notwithstanding, my recollection of people falling out of the buildings and the ensuing videos left me heartbroken for all affected. I cannot even imagine the fear, pain and desperation the citizens, fire/medical/police personnel must have been going through.

I am glad there is a memorial so that we never forget this horrible tragedy and crime against humanity.
