I hope this Olympics they let the gymnasts do the actual Olympic things, instead of squirreling them away alone in their hotel rooms. The gymnasts have said it was extremely isolating and depressing.

Hopefully we'll see more personality from Hezly as she spends more time with the older athletes. NOT looking forward to seeing her Dad though.

Or not. I have a very stoic 16 year old and having to ham it up for the fans would be his worst nightmare.

I'm sure the experience will be very different from Tokyo. While there are always concerns about getting sick in a large group and athletes don't want to risk getting sick before they compete, the covid issue is significantly less than in the summer of 2021.

Eh... They have a day to rest between the OC and their prelims. I'm betting they'll be allowed to join the boat parade and attend the OC if they want.

The word is that any athlete attending should expect to stand on a boat for hours on end. I’m doubtful they’ll go, but if they do, good for them.

It shouldn't take long, probably a few days, but it's ridiculous they didn't apply for one for Lee. She's literally the only competitor from the trials without one.

COVID is having an uptick, and it hits different people differently. (I know an avid runner who got it fairly recently and she hasn't been able to run in the several weeks since and still has a cough.) There's no way I would do anything to risk having to go through what Vincent Zhou went through or risk feeling sick at competition time. Assuming they are not requiring masking or testing, the risks are actually higher of getting COVID now, including the traveling to Paris. I would skip the opening ceremonies and hope that my teammates would as well.
